Job Description

Overview

This position will support the Behavioral Health Behavioral Health Residential and Childrens Service Lines.

As a key member of the finance team and the service line leadership team the Service Line Controller will play a leadership role in financial planning analysis and reporting for a specific service line or service lines within the company. Reporting into the Chief Financial Officer they will partner with the Senior Vice President of the service line(s) working with the service line leadership in achieving the financial objectives and goals of the service line including holding significant responsibility for revenue and operating expenses.

This role will have a matrix reporting relationship to the Senior Vice President of the service line(s) and to the Chief Financial Officer of Advocates serving as a bridge between the service line and the corporate finance and business office.

Responsibilities

  1. Work closely with the service line leader and leadership team to provide financial guidance and support in achieving strategic fiscal objectives.
  2. Serve as a financial advisor contributing to decisionmaking processes and providing insights into the financial implications of business initiatives.
  3. Collaborate with peers within the finance and business operations team on organizationwide finance and business office initiatives.
  4. Act as liaison and facilitator between the finance and business operations team and service line leadership.
  5. Develop and implement financial models to support budgeting forecasting and longterm strategic planning for the service line.
  6. Analyze financial and operational data key performance indicators and trends to provide actionable insights and recommendations to improve business performance.
  7. Review all payroll expenses to ensure they are on track with budgeted revenue flag variances alerting service line leaders to areas requiring remedy and insuring remedies adequately address issues.
  8. Lead the annual budgeting process for the service line working in collaboration with the Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) team to ensure alignment with overall corporate objectives and targets.
  9. With support of the FP&A team is responsible for ensuring budgets and forecasts are correctly loaded into the planning platform (Adaptive Planning) and the business assumptions are relevant and reasonable.
  10. Prepare accurate and timely financial forecasts identifying risks and opportunities to support effective decisionmaking.
  11. Ensure budgets and forecasts are within agreed upon targets.
  12. Prepare and present monthly quarterly and annual financial statements for the service line highlighting key financial metrics business drivers and variances against budget and forecast along with analysis of commentary.
  13. Ensure compliance with accounting standards company policies and regulatory requirements.
  14. Prepare certain accruals and journal entries related to expenses of the service line either directly or indirectly with assistance from the general ledger accounting team.
  1. Monitor and analyze cost structures identifying opportunities for cost optimization and efficiency improvements.
  2. Collaborate with operational teams to implement cost control and revenue enhancement measures while maintaining highquality standards.
  3. Assess and manage financial risks associated with the service lines operations implementing strategies to mitigate potential challenges.
  4. Stay informed about industry trends market conditions and regulatory changes that may impact financial performance.
  5. Collaborates with organizational resources to ensure the preparation of proposals negotiation processes and contract administration follow company policies and adhere to legal requirements.
  6. Ensure contract pricing and revenue structures maximize funding recommending adjustments and changes when warranted to insure revenue maximization and leading and coleading contract negotiations with services leadership.
  7. In collaboration with service line leadership the Information Systems team and the Facilities and Fleet Management team manage the capital plan for the service line.
  1. Depending on the size and scale of the service line the Service Line Controller may supervise staff that could include financial analysts business analysts or similar potions that may be deemed necessary.
  2. Supervise team members on assigned ad hoc projects as necessary.
  3. Attends and actively participates in supervision and staff meetings.
  4. Ensure that clients are treated with dignity and respect in accordance with Advocates Human Rights policies.
  5. Adhere to all principles related to the Advocates Way.

Qualifications

  1. Bachelors degree in Finance Accounting or a related field or commensurate amount of experience in a similar position; MBA CPA or other industry certification is a plus.
  2. Proven experience in financial planning analysis and control with a minimum of 10 years in a similar role.
  3. Experience with thirdparty insurance billing is beneficial.
  4. Strongly prefer that a candidate will have a demonstrated understanding of and competence in serving culturally diverse populations.
  5. Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting.
  6. Excellent analytical and problemsolving skills with attention to detail.
  7. Effective communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across departments.
  8. Proficient in financial modeling and data analysis tools.
  9. Familiarity with general ledger systems budgeting and planning platforms Electronic Health Records.
  10. Must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
