Position Description and Qualifications

Job Posting Summary:

Ensworth School seeks a dynamic and experienced Physical Education teacher to join its middle school faculty. This individual will lead engaging developmentally appropriate P.E. classes that promote physical fitness skill development teamwork and lifelong wellness. In addition to teaching the ideal candidate will coach multiple sports and contribute to the schools athletic program. A background in fitness instruction is preferred and CSCS certification is highly desirable. The successful candidate will bring enthusiasm for working with middle school students a commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment and the ability to collaborate with colleagues across departments. Above all the successful applicant will have demonstrated a commitment to the principles expressed in the Ensworth Vision Statement executing their role with moral integrity intellectual vitality discipline compassion humor and joy.

Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

  • Abides by Ensworths Employee Handbook and Code of Conduct.
  • Commits to the ideals expressed in Ensworths Mission Statement Vision Statement and Diversity Equity and Inclusion Statement.
  • Adheres to the Essential Expectations of an Ensworth Faculty Staff or Administrator
  • Works to promote and instill Ensworths core skills into each student.
  • Maintains an environment conducive to learning.
  • Serve as an advisor in support of our student life and experiential learning program.
  • Integrates technology to support curricular aims and help students effectively achieve their goals.
  • Provides continual assessment of student progress and communicates academic performance with the support of the PE Department Chair.
  • Works collaboratively with colleagues to develop curricula and plan assessments.
  • Supports a diverse group of learners from a variety of backgrounds.
  • Employs educational technology that augments and enhances the learning experience.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Head of Middle School.

Qualifications/Experience/Personal Attributes:

  • Bachelors or advanced degree in physical education or a related field.
  • 3 years middle school teaching experience.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills.
  • A desire to be a constructive team member.
  • A willingness to accept constructive feedback.
  • A desire to grow and learn through onthejob experiences.
  • Must successfully complete background screening and verification
  • Continued Education Programs (as required by Grade Level and/or position) Periodically participate in different training sessions identified by you the employee and/or Divisional Leadership/Supervisor with the goal of keeping our teachers and staff up to date with current teaching methods practices and any new knowledge in their respective field. Dependent on the program such training may need to take place outside of normal working hours and/or in the summer months.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:

  • Regularly works in standard and classroom conditions.
  • Works at a computer screen for extended periods of time; ability to observe students from various distances.
  • Frequently required to move around the classroom; works at a desk for extended periods of time; occasionally moves around campus.
  • Ability to occasionally move items weighing up to 30 lbs.
  • Occasionally works in a stressful performance environment effectively dealing with a wide variety of challenges deadlines and a varied and diverse array of contacts; stamina to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions.
  • Ensworth requires employees to be physically present on campus with limited exceptions that are at the sole discretion of the School. Under extraordinary circumstances some or all of the workforce may be required to move to a remote working environment. Additionally certain individuals may also be approved for limited remote work based on the nature of the job description specific circumstances and only with written prior approval by a direct supervisor.
