Department Title: Undergrad Intern Franklin Templeton Investment Solutions (FTIS) Systematic Strategies

Location: The intern candidate must be able to commute into the San Ramon CA office on a weekly basis.

Position Summary:

The Systematic Strategies Portfolio Management team is responsible for a number of portfolios including managing all quantitative equity portfolios researching and developing quantitatively managed factorbased (traditional and ESG factors) portfolios and risk premiabased portfolios.

The Systematic Strategies team is a fastgrowing team within Frankin Templeton Investment Solutions. Strategies managed by the team have enjoyed great performance over the past 1 3 and 5 year horizons and are gaining tremendous traction in the marketplace including with the largest insurance companies in the world and sophisticated sovereign wealth funds.

We are a global team who works across multiple locations but strives to work in a very collaborative manner. The environment is fastpaced where the team adapts to changes in markets and portfolios in a dynamic fashion. We work collaboratively with the broader FTIS group including the research team trading team and the client portfolio manager team. In addition we work closely with the broader Franklin Templeton distribution organization and the RFP and marketing teams.

An FTIS Systematic Strategies Intern can expect to learn:

  • How to understand and interpret factor exposures in equity portfolios.
  • How to leverage technology and other tools to create dashboards and reports that provide insights into portfolio performance.
  • How to understand (and visually report on) changing factor exposures in portfolios and the relationship with returns of those portfolios.

Key Responsibilities Can Include:

The Systematic PM team has had a wish list for visualization reports for our portfolios positioning factor exposures and factor returns within MosaiQ which is our Portfolio management system. The interns projects would involve querying our internal databases (DAL) in SQL/Python and creating visual reports using PowerBI.

Some specific examples:

  • Positioning: Visually plot active weights and active risk at the stocks level. Plot relative performance of the positions within drop down time windows.
  • Factor Exposures: For a given portfolio we can have composite or component factor exposures reported at the stock level. When clicked on it can visually plot time series evolution of these exposures
  • Factor Returns: Alpha factor returns and risk factor returns can be reported at the universe level and can be plotted as a time series.

Ideal Qualifications:

  • Strong knowledge of SQL/Python programming
  • Familiarity with PowerBI and similar tools
  • Working towards an undergraduate degree with a focus on technology

Compensation Range:This is a fulltime internship where students will work approximately 37.5 hours per week and earn competitive hourly pay of $37 $47 USD per hour. There are several factors taken into consideration in making compensation decisions including but not limited to location jobrelated knowledge skills and experience.
