JOB TITLE:Specialist Curriculum ELAR (ES MS HS)

REPORTS TO:DirectorCurriculum (ES MS HS)

WAGE/HOUR STATUS:Exempt

PAY GRADE: AI 2

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

The ELAR Specialist works in collaboration with the Directors to develop the curriculum for the district.

All employees of SISD are expected to act with integrity support organizational goals demonstrate the ability to inspire grow and motivate others utilize feedback drive for results and commit to championing the needs of the students employees and overall district.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  • Bachelors Degree from an accredited college or university
  • Curriculum writing experience
  • Five years job related experience

Preferred:

  • Masters Degree from an accredited college or university
  • Leadership experience at the campus level and/or district level
  • Professional development design and presentation experience
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate (preferably in the assigned content area)
  • Five years classroom experience
  • Experience with multiple grade levels
  • Bilingual (English and Spanish)

SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:

  • Expertise in elementary ELA curriculum instruction and assessment
  • Exceptional knowledge of effective teaching strategies and classroom environments
  • Evidence of success in academically advancing gifted and talented students English Language Learners and students with special needs in an inclusive environment
  • Excellent organization communication and interpersonal skills
  • Skilled in the area of planning and presenting professional learning
  • Ability to facilitate and coordinate district functions
  • Understanding of the instructional needs of 21st century learners
  • Works effectively with and lead adult learners
  • Strong technology skills including technology integration
  • Ability to multitask

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Collaborates with ELA/SLA specialist to develop review and modify elementary ELA curriculum and assessments
  • Analyzes data and identifies the appropriate instructional response to data trends
  • Remain current on educational research and instructional best practices and apply research and data to daily work
  • Attends weekend and evening events associated with ELA programs
  • Performs all other duties as assigned

WORKING CONDITIONS:

The usual and customary methods of performing the jobs functions require the following physical demands: physical mobility standing prolonged sitting some lifting carrying pushing and/or pulling. This position will also require both traveling within the district and state wide. Mental demands: Ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of situations; ability to interpret a variety of data; ability to interpret TEC and policy; ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory of instructional programs; ability to be effective in both oral and written communication; ability to maintain emotional control under stress.
