Job Description
Position:
Guidance Counselor Elementary
Supervisor:
Principal
Work Site:
Assigned Elementary School
Summary:
Assist in the students development in the areas of intellectual mental social and emotional health. Support as needed a students academic physical vocational progress in the school.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Work in the classroom using guidance curriculum: Classroom activities group activities curriculum development and curriculum preparation.
- Work with individual students doing individual assessment advisement placement vocational/occupational assessment screening.
- Consult with parent(s) and teacher(s) individual and group counseling crisis intervention referral(s) MDTM SAT parent calls.
- Educate the staff/community on student guidance issues.
- Balance class sizes build master schedule calculating GPAs and folders.
- Attend trainings on student guidance issues as assigned by his/her principal.
- Maintain transcripts/ folders.
- Perform testing duties as assigned by supervisor.
- Comply with all Board of Education policies administrative regulations Public Education Department guidelines and local state and federal laws.
- Support district and school efforts to keep CCSD safe and secure
- Support and comply with grant program and/or funding source requirements
- Complete and comply with all required trainings annually
- Adhere to NM Code of Ethical Responsibility of the Education Profession (NMAC 6.60.9.8
- Other duties as assigned reasonably related to the scope of the position
Minimum Qualifications:
- Masters degree in School Counseling or related field
- NM PED Counselor license 600
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of Din language culture and history preferred
- Training in Master schedule building and Special Education (IDEA) & 504
Physical/Job Requirements:
Standing sitting walking lifting carrying up to 50 pounds climbing bending reaching kneeling driving a vehicle traveling long distances writing typing word processing reading researching information and effective communication skills.
Safety and Health:
- Knowledge of universal hygiene precautions
- Completed and cleared background check
- Pass drug test if required for position
- Knowledge and compliance with district and school Safety Plans
Equipment/Material Handled:
- Multimedia equipment including current technology
- Equipment/materials relevant to the job responsibilities
- Valid driver license and insurable by district if necessary
Work Environment:
- Must be able to work within various degrees of noise temperature and air quality
- Work interruptions
- Flexibility
- Must be selfmotivated and able to complete job assignment without direct supervision
- Must complete applications and assignments within the timeframes allowed
- Extended work hours on occasion
