GRANBY PUBLIC SCHOOLSSOCIAL WORKER/ADJUSTMENT COUNSELORJOB DESCRIPTIONPosition:Social Worker/Adjustment CounselorJob Goal: To help students resolve personal emotional and social problems that interfere with their adjustment to school and their capacity to enjoy the full benefits of the education offered to them.Supervision:Reports to the Building Principals and the Director of Pupil Services. Education Work Experience and Licensure: Required: Masters degree in Social Work Department of Education License in School Social Work/School Adjustment Counseling. MA DESE Certified Acceptable C.O.R.I. and fingerprint report as determined by the Superintendent Valid drivers license. Preferred: Experience working with school age children (K12 in a school setting. Experience with substance counseling Competency in use of current related educational technology.Performance Responsibilities: Conducts individual and/or small group counseling. Meets with students and families to address social and emotional issues that impact the educational process. Assists in the development of special programs for students who are experiencing difficulty with substance abuse. Maintains relationships with the community mental health clinics special schools and other resources offering therapeutic services. Maintains case notes on students referred for counseling. Assists parents/guardians with the referral process for social services. Assists with and/or facilitates programs/workshops for parents and faculty regarding child and adolescent development. Consults regularly with staff regarding studentrelated issues. Makes home visits as needed. May work flexible hours in order to meet the needs of students and their families Attends Health Advisory Committee meetings. Participates in the development of the Safe and Drug Free Grant. Writes and monitors 504 Student Accommodation Plans as assigned. Conducts behavioral assessments develops behavior intervention plans and communicates them to staff and parents as assigned. Teaches classes to students on such subjects as selfesteem and interpersonal relationships as assigned by the administration. Attends and contributes to building based team meetings as assigned. Advises the faculty and administration on matters within scope of expertise. Serves as a member of the building crisis team. Engages in ongoing professional development activities to continuously enhance level of professional skill. Complies with district state and federal policies and regulations. Acts as a Mandated Reporter (Chapter 119 Section 51A). Complies with the NonViolent Crisis Intervention Policy. Confers with parents about academic and social issues related to the student as needed. Other duties may be assigned by Administration.
