Job Description

PURPOSE STATEMENT

The Head Baseball Coach will direct the 7th grade baseball program at thePioneer Middle School.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Implement teaching and coaching philosophies consistent with the Walla Walla School District and Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA) mission statements.
  2. Instruct participants in individual group and team techniques tactics and physical training necessary for the realization of success.
  3. Communicate a clearly defined philosophy which emphasizes ethical competition sportsmanship leadership and citizenship with students parents staff and community members.
  4. Utilize effective coaching techniques for skill development strategy and interpersonal team relations.
  5. Develop and promote high level performance expectations for all players and coaches.
  6. Support and help implement the established offseason strength conditioning and skills development program.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

District Athletic Director Building Principal and Human Resources.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

  • Teaching certificate and experience is strongly preferred.
  • Previous experience coaching competitive baseball.
  • Two years as a head baseballcoach or assistant coach or experience in coaching baseball at the college level.
  • Successful experience in teaching technical sports/baseball skills to secondary school student athletes.
  • High School Diploma or GED.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively carry out the duties of the baseball program as established by the Middle School Principal Athletic Director and policies of the Walla Walla School District.
  • Verified coaching techniques in the area of scope and sequence of skill development safety teamwork strategy interpersonal relations routine training practice and game organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with students parents assistant coaches administrators staff and community; effective public relations skills.
  • Evidence of short and longterm organization and management skills.
  • Evidence of being a positive role model.
  • Clearlydefined philosophy for the coaching level applied for.
  • Professional integrity vigor flexibility enthusiasm.

Licenses/Special Requirements

  • WIAA certification and compliance with WIAA and district rules and regulations.
  • Must meet the age requirements of WIAA applicable to this position.
  • Middle school coaches are required to complete 30 clock hours of coaching standard courses by the completion of the second year of coaching.
  • Continuous training standard requires that during any threeyear period of coaching 5 hours of coaches education.
  • Possess current First Aid/CPR cards and be versed in related preventative health and training standards.
  • Meet and maintain coaching standards as determined by the District and Washington Interscholastic Activities Association.
  • Completed Employment Application/Background Check.
  • Resume of education experience and references to include three current recommendations.
  • Statement of coaching philosophy 12 pages).
