Job Description

Summary

Position Summary
The Inpatient/Procedural Medical Assistant promotes efficient high quality patient care by collaborating with the team to manage patient flow communication and any applicable testing or procedures. Care is provided within the scope of practice and established policies and procedures in conjunction with or under the direct clinical support and supervision of a credentialed professional.

Essential Duties

  1. Room and Equipment Maintenance: Ensure all procedures and patient rooms are clean wellorganized and stocked with necessary equipment and supplies. Regularly inspect and maintain equipment for safety and readiness in both procedural and inpatient settings.
  2. Patient Preparation and Education: Assist in preparing patients for procedures or treatments providing clear instructions regarding their care plan procedure steps and postprocedure expectations.
  3. Performing DepartmentSpecific Procedures: Independently perform procedures as trained and approved within the scope of the department. This may include assisting with or directly handling diagnostic tests treatments or minor procedures depending on the specific needs of the setting.
  4. Collaboration with Nursing and Providers: Maintain open communication with nursing staff and providers to ensure coordinated efficient patient care. Relay relevant patient information and collaborate on patient care plans.
  5. Patient Care Documentation: Accurately document patient information including procedures performed patient responses and any followup instructions in the appropriate electronic health records (EHR) system.
  6. Infection Control and Safety: Follow infection control protocols and ensure that all patient areas tools and materials are used and handled in compliance with safety standards for both procedural and inpatient settings.
  7. Administrative Support: Assist with clerical tasks such as scheduling triaging patient messages and managing inbasket communications to support the smooth operation of the unit or department.
  8. Patient Education and Communication: Provide clear and compassionate education to patients and their families about procedures treatments and postcare instructions. Act as a liaison between patients and the healthcare team addressing patient concerns and ensuring they understand their care plan in both procedural and inpatient settings.

Other Duties

  1. May collect and correctly label lab specimens utilizing the correct collection procedure from patients. May prepare specimens for analysis by centrifugation separating specimens from red cells and other techniques required for distribution of the sample to the appropriate area. May utilize point of care instruments such as the ISTAT Piccolo glucometer etc.
  2. May perform electrocardiograms (EKGs) or other diagnostic tests on patients as directed and monitors procedure activity based on training/competence.
  3. May participate in quality assurance and improvement activities on an ongoing basis to support maintaining accreditation standards and provide effective patient care.

Salary Range: $19.75 $26.50

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Education: High school diploma/GED and successful graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program or Emergency Medical Technician program
  2. Work Experience: None
  3. Special Training Certification or Licensure: Current BLS certification required.
