Job Description

At the South West Aboriginal Medical Service (SWAMS) we are dedicated to providing holistic culturally appropriate health services to the Aboriginal community in Bunbury and the surrounding regions. Our mission is to improve the health and wellbeing of our community through comprehensive highquality care.

The Accountant is responsible for drafting financial statements maintaining cash controls maintaining accounts receivable and payable and providing timely administrative services to the SWAMS.

Main Duties

  • Assisting with the month end process
  • Preparation of regular monthly journals
  • Performing analysis of accounts as directed
  • Assisting with the annual budget process and any subsequent forecasting as required
  • Assisting with the acquittal of contracts as dictated by the funding body.
  • Maintain timely and accurate financial records recording all income and expenditures against the program/units.
  • Check the preparation of all account payments using NetSuite electronic banking software in conjunction with Commonwealth Bank online banking.
  • Prepare and lodge BAS STP returns using the ATO portal in a timely and accurate manner and contact the Public Officer for sign off as and when required.
  • Lodge annual FBT returns through the ATO portal as and when required.
  • Manage the funding body receivables including monitoring of all funding receivables as scheduled in the funding agreements maintaining the funding schedule spreadsheet to ensure changes to funding arrangements are recorded and follow up any overdue payments with the funding body and or internally.
  • Manage and reconcile petty cash.
  • Complete weekly bank reconciliations.

Specific requirements of this position include but are not limited to;

Essential Criteria

  • Tertiary qualifications Bachelors degree in accounting or similar
  • Demonstrated welldeveloped communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with different stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated competence in the use of NetSuite or similar accounting software.
  • Demonstrated analytical skills in financial analysis and interpretation.
  • Good time management skills with the ability to effectively plan organise and coordinate own workload.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision.

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience working in a NotforProfit Organisation
  • Experience working in the health industry
