Job Description

TEACHER ASSOCIATE includes Regular Education Special Education Transportation and

Secretarial Associate positions)

Position Purpose

Under the general superivision of the building principal and designated teacher(s) to assist and support all staff in the education of children.

Essential Performance Responsibilities

  • Assists in the supervision of students in the classroom and other areas of the school facility. This may include bus arrival/dismissal lunch and/or recess school related activities or field trips during contracted hours and emergency drills/situations.
  • Assists staff in preparation of materials. This may include reproducing and preparing materials and equipment used in the classroom; correcting papers workbooks and tests; and creating and preparing materials for bulletin boards.
  • Works with individual or a group of students in the daily routine of the classroom under the teachers direction. This may include assisting the teacher with classroom management and/or implementation of behavioral management plan(s); assisting students with homework tests and/or seatwork; assisting students with technology (audiovisual computer adaptive educational equipment); and maintaining records for individual students.
  • Keeps teacher/administrator informed of all relevant studentrelated matters.
  • Maintains working knowledge and use of available technology.
  • Attends scheduled training sessions.
  • Duties and responsibilities as requested by supervisor may vary from time to time.

Qualifications Profile

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Ability to relate to all children regardless of needs and/or abilities.
  • Possess collaborative and interpersonal skills.

Travel Requirements

Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.

Physical Requirements

Bending carrying climbing lifting pushing pulling reaching sitting standing and walking.

Working Conditions

Includes extremes of temperature and humidity. Hazards include stairs and communicable diseases.

Any employee not covered by a negotiated contract agreement is an atwill employee. Either the school district or the employee can terminate the employment relationship at will with or without cause so long as there is no violation of applicable federal or state law. The school district can define the number of days notice required of a terminating employee.
