We are seeking a Staff Software Engineer to join our Toronto team and help us build a worldclass engineering organization that will play a critical role in our Canadian expansion. As we grow our presence in the Toronto area were looking for engineers who are passionate about technology scalability and making an impact in the legal tech space. You will be part of an ambitious team thats committed to building reliable and scalable backend systems for an AIpowered platform thats redefining the future of legal services.
This is a hybrid role with 3 days per week spent collaborating with the team in the Toronto office.
What Youll Do:
Design develop and optimize robust scalable backend systems that power EvenUps AIdriven platform ensuring reliability and performance at scale
Work closely with internal engineering teams to understand new product requirements and deliver highquality scalable solutions
Collaborate with worldclass engineers on complex backend challenges including data processing infrastructure and integration of largescale machine learning models
Drive the development of key backend frameworks libraries and systems to enhance EvenUps product offerings
Contribute to EvenUps engineering culture by helping new engineers understand what it takes to build systems in a Silicon Valleystyle startup while ensuring quality and best practices in a fastpaced environment
Actively engage in team building efforts and mentorship to help build a worldclass engineering team in Toronto
Take full ownership of complex engineering projects from inception to deployment ensuring they meet EvenUps high standards for performance scalability and security
What We Look For:
Extensive experience in backend development and a strong understanding of distributed systems
Proficiency in programming languages such as Python Go Java or C with the ability to write clean maintainable and productionready code
Proven experience with building scalable reliable systems and APIs in a highperformance environment
Experience working in a startup environment and ability to thrive in a dynamic fastpaced culture
A strong understanding of modern engineering practices including testdriven development code reviews and deployment pipelines
Experience in cloud infrastructure preferably with technologies like AWS Kubernetes Docker and Terraform
Excellent problemsolving skills and the ability to communicate technical solutions to crossfunctional teams
Leadership potential: Youll help mentor junior engineers and guide the development of best practices as we grow the team
Bonus Points:
Experience working with AI/ML systems particularly in the context of generative AI or legal tech
Familiarity with data science machine learning or building systems that integrate with largescale data processing pipelines
Previous experience in scaling a backend system in a fastgrowing startup environment
