Job Description

Summary:


The clinical staff pharmacist isresponsible for all aspects of assessing verifying dispensing labelingstoring recording and using pharmaceutical preparations for patientsthroughout McLean Hospital. The team member ensures optimal clinical care in theacute and residential/partial psychiatric setting which includes aspects ofgeneral medicine through assessment of patientspecific factors andcollaboration with other healthcare professionals. Clinical staff pharmacistsare responsible for appropriate supervision training and verification of allwork performed by pharmacy technicians and interns. Clinical staff pharmacistsalso partake in clinical initiatives/services inventory management educationalactivities hospital/department committees and continuous quality improvementas assigned. The clinical staff pharmacist provides exemplary customer serviceto patients and staff while completing tasks efficiently and accurately.


Essential Job Functions include:


Dispensing functions

  • Utilizescomputerized order entry system and patient medical record to timely andaccurately receive interpret review and process medicationorders/prescriptions.
  • Accuratelyprepares labels and dispenses medications based on medication orders orprescriptions according to Pharmacy Department Policies and Procedures andapplicable laws.
  • Supervisestechnicians in preparation of medications and verifies accuracy of all preparedorders including hospital prepared unit dosed medications.

Clinical functions

  • Utilizespatient specific information when interpreting reviewing and approvingmedication orders to assess safety and efficacy.
  • Servesas a hospital resource for drug information and utilizes appropriate referencematerials when necessary.
  • Participatesin the Departments clinical initiatives and programs.

Additional functions

  • Continuouslyassesses and improves the performance of care and services provided.
  • Attendsand actively participates in team conferences and staff meetings/inservices.
  • Demonstratesorganizational time management and efficiency skills by prioritizing ordersand activities.
  • Adheresto all Pharmacy Department policies and procedures McLean Hospital safetyrules Joint Commission standards and any other applicable regulatoryagency.
  • Performsall tasks demonstrating service orientation to fellow employees and staffmembers to provide excellent customer service.
  • Demonstratesappropriate judgment and communication skills when interacting with physiciansnursing patients and other hospital staff.
  • Cooperateswith others within and outside of department and coordinates work efforts.

Education:BSand/or PharmD from an accredited College of Pharmacy. Residency experiencepreferred. Board Certification in Pharmacotherapy or Psychiatry preferred.

License:Currentunrestricted pharmacy licensure in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

Experience:Previoushospital pharmacy experience preferred.

Work Schedule:Rotatingshift including weekends holidays and oncall
