The LVN Skilled Nursing Director of Staff Development (DSD) is responsible for designing implementing and evaluating comprehensive training and education programs for specific levels of staff (e.g. CNAs RNAs LVNs) to ensure clinical competency regulatory compliance and highquality resident care. The DSD collaborates with nursing and facility leadership to assess training needs develop curriculums and delivers both classroom and handson training sessions. This role supports orientation for new hires conducts ongoing staff competency assessments and assists with the implementation of policies and procedures to maintain standards of care.
Accountabilities
1. Plans develops directs evaluates supervises and coordinates educational and onthejob training programs.
2. Provides leadership in formulating the goals and objectives of the inservice educational program and evaluates and ensures the quality of inservice programs.
3. Secures develops and maintains records reports instructional manuals reference materials etc. pertinent to inservice educational programs per state and federal regulations.
4. Assists leadership with the development and implementation of policies and procedures that govern the Nursing Services in collaboration with appropriate services.
5. Directs and conducts the orientation of new employees in compliance with regulations covering areas such as the philosophy and objectives of care resident rights safety infection control and facility policies and procedures.
6. Plans and conducts meaningful inservice education programs according to regulatory requirements for nursing and facility staff ensuring competency in current and new skills and as directed by the DON and Administrator.
7. Identifies facility staff needs for education together with the Director of Nursing and Administrator.
8. Maintains an annual calendar and posts a monthly schedule of inservices for all staff.
9. Maintains records of inservice hours for employees.
10. Assists with the facilitys Quality Improvement in developing and implementing a quality assurance program for inservice training.
11. Assesses the competency of all nursing staff on an annual basis and provides additional instruction in areas of deficiency.
12. Participates in performance improvement activities.
13. Works in partnership with any external CNA or Nursing schools maintains a current schedule of all students and outside instructors who may be in the facility doing clinical training. Reviews all students records for history and physical and criminal screening.
14. Plans conducts and documents and/or coordinates all required Fire/Internal Disaster drills and External Mass Casualty Drills.
15. Confirms the validity of certificates for all CNAs LVNs RNs RNAs and RTs.
16. Acts as the Infection Control Preventionist for the facility and represents the facility at Infection Control Committee meetings.
17. Demonstrates knowledge of the resident population and evaluates licensed nurses abilities to assess and reassess residents.
18. Coordinates and directs resident care and education by monitoring care plans and assisting licensed nurses in improving the quality of care.
19. Participates in licensed personnel meetings on a regular basis.
20. Contributes to planning decision making policy formulation and annual budget planning at facility management meetings.
21. Performs other jobrelated duties as assigned.
