Job Description

Hours: fulltime 37.5 hours per week) Monday Friday 8:30 am to 4:00 pm

Location: burg VA 24501


Position Summary

Project LINK provides specialized assistance to substanceusing and atrisk pregnant postpartum and parenting women and their children. The Peer Recovery Specialist (PRS) position will assist individuals with basic physical financial social personal and recovery needs. Services carried out by the Peer Recovery Specialist include monitoring advocacy daily support and similar functions.

Required Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma / GED
  • At least one year of personal experience living in recovery with mental health/substance use challenges or the family member/supporter of a person who experienced mental health/substance use challenges.

Related Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of the nature of the recovery process including the use of established standardized mental health substance use and cooccurring processes; Knowledge of basic problem solving strategies to support individuals in selfdirected recovery; Basic knowledge of multiple pathways to recovery; signs and symptoms of mental health and/or substance use challenges and strategies to address these symptoms; Ability to identify an individuals need for resources services and other supports; Ability to utilize personal experience to support others in recovery. Ability to participate in and successfully pass behavioral intervention training; includes both verbal deescalation skills and physical skills techniques to be utilized with consumers as needed.
  • Willing and available to work modified schedules (weekends holidays etc. as required.
    Ability to drive and must possess a valid drivers license. May be called upon to travel to any Horizon worksite; transport clients provide services to client @other locations. Regular attendance at trainings and Horizon meetings may require travel to a variety of Horizon sites.
