Job Description

GENERAL SUMMARY/OVERVIEW STATEMENT:


The Informatician assists and coordinates the design planning implementation and evaluation of integrated informatics solutions for a variety of research & innovation (R&I) projects. The Informatician demonstrates superior ability to design and implement technical solutions to the problems and challenges inherent in R&I projects including the analysis and adoption of new technologies and standards. The Informatician is involved in all phases of the R&I project lifecycle assisting in requirements gathering technical design and architecture prototyping documentation implementation and subsequent evaluation. The Informatician demonstrates extensive expertise in informatics methods and tools data and knowledge management software engineering and architecture and database management systems. The Informatician also demonstrates knowledge and experience with healthcare interoperability standards systems integration frameworks and relevant data security requirements. The Informatician will work closely in a matrixed manner with informatics researchers software engineers and those involved with various R&I projects.



PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


Design implement and maintain informatics solutions to support different R&I projects engaging stakeholders to understand specifications and contribute to efficient project ;
Design and implement reliable and consistent informatics methods and processes for R&I projects taking into account the need to integrate with existing clinical systems the utilization and evaluation of new technologies and the adoption of healthcare interoperability standards;
Create and maintain highquality documentation that describes in detail the specifications design and implementation of each informatics solution particularly those created to support efficient clinical data acquisition aggregation and analysis;
Define and document the design and implementation of migration conversion deidentification and integration strategies for new and existing clinical data sources;
Conduct technical and informatics review sessions to ensure complete and highquality functional requirements component designs and models while ensuring compatibility with existing semantic interoperability standards;
Assist with the implementation testing and evaluation of integrated software components and lifecycle processes including the development of highquality technical and enduser documentation;
Assist with the definition and implementation of performance and reliability metrics including their application for continuous tuning and optimization of deployment environments;
Contribute to the selection and implementation of new technologies and opensource software components applicable to R&I projects;
Contribute to training and support of project participants and endusers regarding the configuration and use of the informatics solutions;
Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:


B.S. or equivalent degree preferably in Computer Science Biomedical Informatics or related field;
7 years of relevant professional experience with information systems software development data management and related activities; 5 years if Masters degree in Computer Science or related field; 3 years if Masters degree in Biomedical Informatics or PhD degree in Computer Science or related field; No prior professional experience required if PhD degree in Biomedical Informatics.



SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:


Required:
Superior interpersonal skills in the areas of presence and team work;
Superior verbal and written communication skills with excellent understanding of clinical concepts and ability to exchange ideas with clinical stakeholders (e.g. physicians nurses);
Superior ability to grasp functional concepts quickly and exceptionally attentive to detail;
Superior analytical and problem solving skills including a creative and selfmotivated mindset;
Superior ability to work collaboratively on multidisciplinary teams but also independently with minimal direction and supervision;
Excellent project management skills including project planning coordination and task management;
Professional experience with software engineering processes and tools;

Preferred:
Understanding of data management and information modeling including their application to enable efficient clinical data acquisition aggregation and analysis;
Practical knowledge of informatics standards including data interoperability standards and biomedical terminologies;
Practical Experience with process modeling and optimization methodologies;
Practical experience of XML and other pertinent W3C standards;
Practical experience with database systems and SQL;
Practical experience with software programming and Webbased and Servicesbased Architectures;
Knowledge of cloud and mobile computing technologies and platforms;
Knowledge of advanced middleware platforms and enterprise integration technologies.



WORKING CONDITIONS:


40 hours/week;
No hazardous material exposure;
No exposure to dangerous or adverse working conditions;
No patient contact.
