Under general supervision of the 3D Laboratory Operations Manager the 3D Imaging Technologist Level I operates 3D imaging workstations and other computers. The candidate manages transfer of image data to and from the 3D Lab workstations in an accurate and timely manner and manipulates digital medical images in multiple planes and dimensions for clinical visualization and analysis of diagnostic and interventional studies. Candidate also uses the radiology information system to update scheduling and billing records.
A 3D Imaging Technologist Level I must be experienced in CT and/or MRI scanning and must understand crosssectional anatomy to be able to recognize and identify scan artifacts and abnormal anatomy/pathology in 3D images. Experienced CT or MRI technologists who are hired as 3D Imaging Technologists Level I will undergo a rigorous training program in the MGH 3D Imaging Service as outlined in the Competency Based Training Program to learn the advanced imaging techniques required to create consistent quality clinically valuable 3D images from CT and MR scans. The 3D Imaging Technologist Level I will be trained and will learn the skills required to understand 3D anatomy and operations of advanced 3D imaging workstations. Thus the 3D Imaging Technologist Level I position requires all the knowledge and skills of a trained CT or MRI technologist plus the additional training and skills developed in the MGH 3D Imaging Service for creating additional clinical 3D imaging views.
