Under general supervision of Dr. Rosas the Research Study Nurse is responsible for specific aspects of protocols and policies for research studies in addition to assisting in the multidisciplinary HD clinic as within scope of the nursing license in for the Massachusetts.
The research nurse identifies and recruits eligible patients collects compiles tabulates and analyzes data for the principal investigator (s) and coordinate related patient care activities in the inpatient and outpatient setting. Using the nursing process delivers professional nursing care and evaluates patients responses to study protocols and contributes to research publications. Coordinates and implements the research study according to the study protocol. Provides data form development; performs required nursing procedures including blood draws as well as collection and preparation and shipping of samples. Collaborates with the principal investigator (s) on an ongoing basis regarding progress of the study and the continuation or termination of study subjects. Works with physicians nurses and patients in the selection of and participation by appropriate patients. Obtains all necessary approvals and informed consent forms; screens and enrolls patients into the studies. Assesses patient participation on a continuous basis in light of ethical considerations. Responsible for IV infusions including IV insertion administration of vital signs before during and post infusion infusion site assessment patient monitoring for allergic reactions and post infusion care. Responsible for data collection documentation. Acts as liaison between patient and other members of the team regarding patient care activities relating to the research protocol. Responsible for IRB submissions for protocols. Responsible for some level of oversight of CRCs. Participates in Quality Assurance/Quality control activities. Participates in daily operational activities necessary for safe patient/staff environment. Knows and adheres to safety precaution techniques for Universal Precautions per Regulatory Standards. Performs appropriate Quality Control and Preventative Maintenance procedures.

Ability to work well under pressure a must.
Ability to work with staff of diverse educational and ethnic backgrounds required.
Strong leadership skills preferred.
Understands and practices Good clinical practices. Knowledgeable and compliant in all hospital State and Federal regulatory requirements including hospital policy and procedures (where applicable to the performance of the job) Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA).
