Job Description

QUALIFICATIONS:

Must have a high school vocational school or equivalent education.
Must be able to communicate in English.
Must be knowledgeable of safe maintenance practices procedures and guidelines.
Must be able to work well with others.
Must have the ability to minimize waste of supplies etc.
Must be able to follow written/oral instructions.
Must have the ability to perform the work within the spirit and mission of the hospital.
Must be able to speak the English Language in an understandable manner.

PHYSICALREQUIREMENTS:
Must be able to move intermittently throughout the work day.
Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of this position.
Must function independently have personal integrity have flexibility and the ability to work effectively with others.
Must possess sight/hearing senses or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to meet the full requirements of the position.
Must be able to lift push pull and move equipment and supplies throughout the work day.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Subject to a variety of environments including heat cold dust dirt noise odors etc. but none continuously present to the extent of being disagreeable.
Injuries should they occur may result in lost time due to lacerations falls etc.

SPECIFIC DUTIES (Will be part of the Performance Evaluation):

1. Will work from oral and/or written instruction.

2. Will participate with others as assigned.

3. Will operate trucks and other mechanical equipment from snow removal and/or other grounds work.

4. Will move and deliver materials supplies furniture and equipment as necessary or directed.

5. Will clean lubricate and maintain equipment in a safe and serviceable condition.

6. Will assist the various trades in the installation maintenance or basic repair of equipment piping electric HVAC systems etc.

7. Will replace burned out light bulbs to include exit lights overhead lights fluorescent lights room call lights etc.

8. Will adjust temperature control devices in patient rooms nursing stations.

9. Will perform basic repairs to plumbing system i.e.
a. Unblock toilets sinks drains using hand/small power tools.
b. Change washers gaskets filters aerators on sinks flushometers bed pan washers.

10. Will apply touch up paint/wall coverings to wall services in patient care areas.

11. Will assemble small furniture tables cabinets etc. when necessary.

12. Will attach to walls objects pictures frames etc.

13. Will perform basic repairs to patient furniture (i.e. beds tables).

14. Will perform tasks of general maintenance (typically not more than 15 minutes).

15. Will provide basic repairs to floor coverings.

16. Will assist in snow removal.

17. Will move and deliver supplies.

18. Will clean lubricate and maintain equipment.

19. Will perform electrical safety checks of new equipment.

20. Responsible for maintaining Spaulding Hospital Cambridge standards.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Lifting carrying pushing and pulling at a medium work level up to 50 lbs.

Climbing: Ascending and Descending ladders and/or stairs.

Stooping kneeling or crouching

Balancing: Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking standing or crouching on a slippery surface (i.e. wet floor).

Reaching the hands and arms in any direction.

Handling and/or feeling objects of different sizes weights and temperatures.

Oral and graphic expression of the English language in a clear and effective manner. Understanding of spoken and written English in a manner that promotes effective communication.

Ability to perceive the nature of sounds by the ear.

Seeing: Acuity depth perception field of vision accommodation and color vision are such that one can identify judge and react to objects in the environment.
