Position Summary
Westlake Academy seeks an energetic organized and enthusiastic teacher of robotics and engineering who can effectively deliver instruction aligned with the International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum framework. Westlake Academy is looking for a program builder to develop a strong STEM and Robotics presence on campus. Responsibilities include teaching introductory and advanced courses in design robotics and engineering leading Westlake Academys competitive Robotics extracurricular team and supporting additional course loads in STEM disciplines based on the applicants expertise and school needs. The ideal candidate is passionate about mentoring high school students providing handson training and guiding students through the design and implementation of technology solutions to address authentic problems. Access to wellequipped digital and manual fabrication labs offers opportunities for innovation and the successful candidate will play a pivotal role in shaping the direction and maintenance of these resources.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification:

• Bachelors degree in a STEM related field
• State teaching certification; IB training is highly desirable
• Familiarity with at least one programming language such as Java Python C or ROBOTC
• Strong understanding of the IB philosophy and its emphasis on inquiry internationalmindedness and academic rigor
• Excellent communication collaboration and organizational skills
• Demonstrated ability to engage students in meaningful and innovative learning experiences

Priority will be given to applicants who possess:

• Masters degree in Engineering Education or related field
• Knowledge of International Baccalaureate (IB) programs
• Preferred: Familiarity with digital design software such as Autodesk Inventor Revit or Fusion 360
• Preferred: Experience with VEX robotics or similar platforms
• 13 years of experience in an IB World School
• IBEN Member

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Deliver instruction in alignment with IB curriculum and STEM education standards integrating handson learning robotics and engineering principles.
• Possible course assignments include robotics engineering design physics computer science digital electronics civil engineering and architecture and career/technical education.
• Prepare syllabi and unit plans that reflect IB philosophy and outcomes emphasizing inquirybased learning and critical thinking.
• Use formative and summative assessments to evaluate and report on student progress in a timely manner ensuring alignment with the IB assessment framework.
• Collaborate with case managers for students in special services (IEPs and 504 plans) to meet diverse learning needs.
• Provide additional academic support during daily conference periods and require attendance from students needing extra assistance.
• Maintain communication with parents throughout the year including scheduled parentteacher conferences and other events as needed.
• Maintain a classroom environment that upholds school decorum and IB learner profile values.

OTHER DUTIES

• Serve as the lead coach for Westlake Academys first competitive Robotics extracurricular team mentoring students during the competition season and facilitating enrichment activities during the offseason.
• Support extracurricular STEM initiatives and foster student engagement in STEMrelated competitions and activities.
• Serve as an advisor to a group of 1012 students mentoring them through their fouryear tenure and promoting their academic social and emotional wellbeing.
• Participate actively in monthly faculty department and advisory meetings as well as ad hoc committees as assigned.
• Collaborate with colleagues to develop and deliver interdisciplinary projects that integrate IB Design principles and STEM innovation.
• Perform other duties as assigned supporting the broader mission and vision of the Academy.

Performance of this job will be evaluated annually by the direct supervisor.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT

• This position requires the ability to maintain effective audiovisual discrimination and perception for making observations operating assigned equipment and communicating with others.
• The employee must maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities which may include the following: walking and standing for extended periods of time running walking crouching or crawling during an emergency lifting carrying and pushing/pulling equipment and supplies weighing up to 50 lbs. manual labor as needed and exposure to adverse weather conditions.
