Position Summary
The History Department in the College of Humanities Arts and Social Sciences (CHASS) at the University of Detroit Mercy (UDM) invites candidates to apply for a fulltime tenure track faculty position at the assistant professor rank. The candidate hired will start August 16 2025. Detroit Mercy is dedicated to developing a diverse and inclusive academic community within an urban context. As a primarily undergraduate institution (PUI) Detroit Mercy offers small classes and close collegial relationships. The Colleges faculty forms a vibrant community of teaching scholars with an emphasis on studentcentered teaching and academic mentorship of students. The History Department offers a 36credit hour major in History and 18credit hour minor in History and Museum Studies. The successful candidate will teach six courses a year maintain an active research agenda and engage in service activities. Teaching responsibilities will include teaching a survey of U.S. History since 1877 and upperdivision courses in their area(s) of specialization. We seek an educator with expertise in Modern American History who is an enthusiastic teacherscholar with a strong interest in implementing best practices in teaching pedagogy including evidencebased teaching and assessment strategies a strong commitment to supporting a diverse population of students and who can contribute to the Colleges robust intellectual environment. We are particularly interested in candidates who will contribute to our efforts to engage and support first generation and historically marginalized students from a variety of backgrounds and experiences.
Candidates are expected to provide evidence of a research agenda appropriate for a primarily undergraduate institution and to demonstrate their ability and interest to disseminate results in peerreviewed publications and conferences.
