Special Education Teacher(Project Success)

Thacher Elementary School

The K4 Project Success program provides a highlystructured environment that emphasizes developing and strengthening students skills in adaptive living communication academics selfregulation and mobility. The program incorporates assistive technology and a multisensory approach to instruction designed to increase active classroom participation academic abilities social awareness and independence in the educational setting. Although much of the specialized instruction occurs within the program students are provided with inclusive opportunities with staff support. Collaboration of support services nursing occupational therapy physical therapy vision therapy and speech and language therapy are integral components to this highly supportive and intensive program.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Masters Degree preferred

Massachusetts Licensure as a Teacher of Students with Moderate Disabilities (K8 or Severe (ALL)

Exceptions to the above qualifications shall be made as the Superintendent deems appropriate and acceptable

JOB GOAL/PURPOSE:To ensure that students with an IEP receive services in accordance with federal and state laws and regulations.

REPORTS TO:Building Principal and/orDesignee

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Completes all special education requirements including progress reports IEP development and facilitation of annual review meetings.

  2. Develops and administers curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives.

  3. Utilizes a variety of meothodologies including: mutlisensory lanaguage based and ABA principles within whole class small group and 1:1 instruction.

  4. Collaborates with general education and related service staff to ensure implementation of students IEPs and meeting student needs.

  5. Promotes a positive classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction and student learning.

  6. Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and translates lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction

  7. Maintains accurate complete and confidential student records.
  8. Involvement at the community system building and student levels for schoolwide initiatives such as socialemotional learning Universal Design assistive technology and program development.
  9. Encourages parental involvement in students education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.

  10. Coordinates with other elementary professional staff members especially within grade level to evaluate and assess curriculum and participates in faculty meetings and committees.

  11. Supervises students in activities that take place out of the classroom during the school day including activities involving school transportationand personal care including toileting.

  12. Responsible for annual reviews written progress notes parent/teacher conferences and proctoring state assessments.
  13. Uses evidencebased research and continuing education to address MA frameworks and to meet licensure requirements.
  14. Performs other responsibilities as deemed appropriate and assigned by a supervisor and/or designee.

EXPERIENCE:

Safety Care trained preferred

12 years as a special educator

ELL and SEL training preferred

Teachtown/Encore experience

AAC experience

ABA experience
