PURPOSE
The Assistant Director is a member of the Islander Housing leadership team. This position assists in establishing and implementing goals and strategies for residence life. The Assistant Director provides leadership and direction for the residential communities through supervision of assigned professional livein staff members. The Assistant Director is responsible for providing opportunities for residential student development and success through programming and student support initiatives. This position is responsible for serving oncall and being able to respond to emergency/crisis situations. The Assistant Director will assist with emergencies such as hurricane/tropical storm preparedness.
The residential experience is being designed to intentionally contribute to student learning growth and success. As a livein staff member of Islander Housing the Assistant Director position requires frequent and meaningful interactions with students in a variety of settings. The Assistant Director assists with the administration of various aspects of the residential experience.
The Assistant Director will work with the Director on assessment and evaluation MoveIn processes and programs and will serve in an oncall rotation split between two properties.
DESCRIPTION
Functional Area 1: Administrative
Percent Effort: 50
Provides leadership and direction for the residence life area primarily with transfer and upperclassmen students at Momentum Village apartments and supports Miramar as necessary.
Supervises and trains in collaboration with the Associate Director and assigned by Director livein professional Residence Life Coordinators.
Participates in strategic planning based on assessment data and department goals.
Develops reports analyses and surveys as requested by Director.
Works with the Director on operational unit budgets and provides input for departmental budgets.
Maintains area calendar to coordinate residence life and division with the official University calendar.
Assists Associate Director with Resident Assistant recruitment and selection processes as well as meets University state and federal guidelines/laws.
Serves on departmental/campus committees assigned by the Director.
Enforce the terms and conditions of the Student Housing Contract Resident Handbook and all state/federal laws; investigate resolve and/or refer for adjudication.
Attend staff meetings and other meetings as scheduled
Supports Director with movein planning and other staff with hall openings and closings including checkin and checkout breaks and holidays.
Supports and administers approved departmental and divisional assessment programs and initiatives.
Functional Area 2: Support
Percent Effort: 30
Participates in planning directing and coordinating operational or procedural matters to meet department goals and objectives.
Acts as a Mandatory Reporter (Campus Security Authority) as required by the Clery Act.
Serves oncall with other staff assigned for afterhour response.
Works with University Police Department Counseling Center and other campus departments on immediate response to incidents in the residence halls.
Respond to student and parent concerns; refer difficult cases to appropriate personnel
Demonstrate care compassion and follow through with student mental health and roommate related concerns
Functional Area 3: Program Management
Percent Effort: 20
Responsible for assessment activities for the Department and for producing monthly semester/term and annual reports and statistics.
Monitors compliance with all unit department University and government standards policies and procedures.
Create opportunities for student leadership recognition and collaborate with other departments to assist in student leadership development in collaboration with the Associate Director and Director.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelors degree in applicable field.
Six 6 years of related experience.
Additional experience/education may be used as a substitute for the minimum education/experience requirement:
Masters degree in applicable field with four 4 years of related experience.
Doctoral degree in applicable field with two 2 years of related experience.
Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
Strong verbal and written communication and written skills.
Proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite word processing presentation and spreadsheet applications.
Be able to work late evening hours handle crisis that may arise.
Ability to work on an oncall schedule and travel between campus locations on short notice.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Previous experience working at a college or university.
Previous experience working in university or commercial housing management.
Previous supervision advising or leadership experience.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
This is a 12month livein position. The Assistant Director is required to live in an apartment on campus. The apartments are furnished and include utilities and wireless internet. Partner and pet policies are available upon request.
Must be able to navigate a flexible schedule due to night and weekend duties as needed.
In the event of a weatherrelated emergency the Assistant Director will assist with departmental and campus evacuation procedures.
SALARY: up to $52000/annually approximately.
