Job Description


East Cambridge Savings Banks Lending Division is actively recruiting for a Community Development Mortgage Loan Officer


Function:

Under the general direction of the Secondary Market Lending Sales Manager identifies clients and originates Mortgage Applications primarily in Low to Moderate Income (LMI) census tracts as identified by federal census data in accordance with CRA goals and established Bank policies procedures and strategic goals.


We are looking for candidates with:

  • Bilingual in at least one of the following languages required: Spanish Mandarin or Cantonese.
  • High School diploma or equivalent at least 3 years of related mortgage industry experience with an emphasis on working with borrowers for whom English is not their primary language.
  • Experience working with nonprofits that provide First Time Home Buyer Education.
  • Working knowledge of loan origination software and previous success in a customer serviceoriented role.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet established sales goals and objectives.
  • Highly organized goaloriented selfstarter with a commitment to the highest levels of service excellence.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Able to register as a licensed Mortgage Loan Originator as required under the S.A.F.E. Act.
  • A resident of one of the focus geographies is a plus.


Essential Job Functions:

  • Focuses prospecting and origination activity in census tracts in the banks assessment area defined under fair lending guidance as Low to Moderate Income (LMI) with a goal of the bank being able to originate loan volumes in line with our peer benchmark as obtained from annual HMDA Data. Meets established annual production goals.
  • Serves as the primary liaison with bilingual borrowers working cohesively with loan processors and underwriters and the banking center teams. Provides as appropriate translation services between the Bank and applicant.
  • Collects the financial documents and information needed to complete a mortgage application performs research and conducts interviews as needed and ensures that all information is complete and accurate. Resolves any application issues in a timely manner.
  • Helps potential borrowers successfully navigate the mortgage application process from beginning to closing with an emphasis on borrowers for whom English is not their primary language. Acts as a trusted guide throughout the application process. Educates potential homeowners on the home buying process including mortgage rules and regulations and interest rates. Recommends the mortgage plans that best align with customers backgrounds and needs drawing on research and personal expertise
  • Works closely with nonprofits focused on First Time Homebuyers (FTHB) in the defined market area to help educate potential prospects in advance of being ready to apply for a mortgage. Creates positive lasting relationships with our clients and builds a referral network from nonprofits and realtors that are focused in the LMI defined census tracts.
  • Manages customer experience. Meets with potential customers to evaluate their financial background and homeownership goals. Keeps an open line of communication with applicants throughout the process providing updates and answering any questions that arise. Informs customers when their applications have been approved or denied.
  • Maintains in depth knowledge of the FTHB programs and products that the bank offers to help borrowers qualify for a mortgage including available local down payment assistance programs and related qualification criteria in the geographies served. Maintains expert knowledge of FTHB programs.
  • Participates as an active Banking Center team member. Works with other members of the team to meet performance goals develops strategies and promotional efforts for the Center. Maintains a general understanding of all products and services offered in the Banking Center in an effort to effectively present these products and services to existing and potential clients. Monitors team progress towards attaining goals and objectives.
  • Maintains knowledge of the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) AntiMoney Laundering (AML) Customer Identification Program (CIP) and Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) regulatory requirements. Completes BSArelated annual training in a timely manner and ensures that all BSA procedures are followed when applicable. Identifies and reports compliance related issues and suspicious activity.
