Primary Purpose:
Assists in the implementation of classroom programs including selfhelp behavior management and instructional programs. Works under general supervision of principal and immediate direction of certified teacher. If working in special education helps special education teacher provide for physical and instructional needs of students with disabilities in special education setting.
Education / Certification
- High School Diploma or GED (transcripts must be attached to your application OR provided to the Substitute Specialist prior to taking your first substitute assignment).
Other Requirements:
- A minimum of two professional references are required in order to be eligible for a substitute position (family reference is not allowed). References you provide on your application will receive an electronic reference check form to complete.
- Substitutes will be required to complete annual compliance trainings and information regarding the trainings will be provided during orientation.
- District substitutes are required to be fingerprinted prior to orientation. The District will contact you via email with instructions for scheduling your fingerprinting appointment. Substitutes are responsible for payment of fingerprinting.
- Substitutes will be required to work 10 full days per semester to stay active as a substitute.
Special Knowledge / Skills:
- Ability to work with children with disabilities.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- Knowledge of general office equipment.
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Helps teacher prepare instructional materials and classroom displays for the day.
- Helps maintain a neat and orderly classroom throughout the school day.
- Helps with inventory care and maintenance of equipment.
- Helps teacher keep administrative records and prepare required reports.
- Works with individual students or small groups to conduct instructional exercises assigned by teacher.
- Helps supervise students throughout the school day inside and outside the classroom. This includes lunchroom bus and playground duty.
- Keeps teacher informed of special needs or problems of individual students.
- Maintains confidentiality.
