Job Description

Job Title: Custodian Wage/Hour Status: NonExempt

SUMMARY:

Clean and maintain District facilities using routine procedures to maintain a high standard of safety cleanliness and efficiency of building operations and grounds.

  • Model KISD core organizational beliefs and values; perform duties effectively and efficiently for the purpose of supporting and contributing to high student achievement.
  • Provide program support and service delivery; communicate effectively within and across teams and participate in crossfunctional work groups.
  • Maintain a commitment to the District mission; model District expectations through personal leadership and actively support the efforts of others to achieve District goals.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

Cleaning

  • Maintain a cleaning schedule that will include cleaning of floors chalkboards wastebaskets windows furniture equipment and restrooms.
  • Keep the school building and grounds including sidewalks driveways parking lots and play areas neat and clean.
  • Comply with local laws and procedures for storage and disposal of trash.
  • Assist in maintaining an inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment and request additional supplies as needed.

Maintenance and Repair

  • Make minor building repairs as needed and report needed major repair to supervisor.
  • Assist in setting up facilities for regular and special events and move furniture or equipment within building as directed.

Safety

  • Maintain a cleaning schedule that will include cleaning of floors chalkboards wastebaskets windows furniture equipment and restrooms.
  • Keep school building and grounds including sidewalks driveways parking lots and play areas neat and clean.
  • Comply with local laws and procedures for storage and disposal of trash.
  • Assist in maintaining an inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment and request additional supplies as needed.

  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Accurately report work hours using the time clock to report start and end times.
  • Utilize effective communication skills; ensure that all interactions are supportive courteous and respectful.
  • Pursue Professional Development activities; ensure that Professional Development activities are aligned with District goals and initiatives.
  • Comply with all policies operating procedures legal requirements and verbal and written directives.
  • Comply with the Professional Code of Ethics and Standard Practices for Texas Educators.
  • Follow District safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification:

  • Completion of sufficient education or training to read write and follow directions.

Experience:

  • None

Other:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older

SPECIAL KNOWLEGDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Ability to read and understand instructions for cleaning maintenance and safety procedures
  • Knowledge of minor repair techniques and building and grounds maintenance
  • Ability to operate cleaning equipment and lift heavy equipment
  • Ability to properly handle cleaning supplies

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITES:

  • None

MENTAL/PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS:

Tools/Equipment Used:

  • Buffer stripper burnisher wet and dry vacuum cleaner shampooer dollies ladders; small hand tools; small power tools

Posture:

  • Frequent standing; kneeling/squatting bending/stooping pushing/pulling and twisting

Motion:

  • Frequent walking climbing stairs/ladders grasping/squeezing wrist flexion/extension reaching and overhead reaching

Lifting:

  • Heavy lifting and carrying 45 pounds and over) on a daily basis

Environment:

  • Work outside and inside on slippery or uneven walking surfaces; frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures dust toxic chemicals and materials; regularly work irregular hours; occasional prolonged hours
  • Work to be completed onsite from assigned school or building; regular exposure to noise and computer monitors
  • No remote work

Mental Demands:

  • Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress work; prolonged or irregular hours
