Salary Information
Compensation plans are based on a multistep progression system. The pay range reflects the entry level and maximum salary potential in the assigned pay grade.
**A starting salary may be negotiated and will be commensurate with education training and experience in alignment with pay administration policies**
Nature of Work
This is skilled mechanical work in themaintenance and repair of gasoline and diesel light medium and heavydutytrucks and/or offroad heavy equipment requiring basic technical ability asthis relates to engines and major assembly rebuilding. Employees in this class are in training onmaintenance procedures and will work closely with experienced mechanics uponentry to the job. Employees are assignedbasic repair work and progress up to more complicated maintenance work. Employees exercise a low amount ofindependent judgment concerning methods of repair until they are trained in themore difficult maintenance work. Thisposition reports to a Service Manager and works under the guidance of a MasterMechanic.
Minimum Qualifications
Three(3 years of experience within the past five 5 years as an automotivemechanic with at least one 1 year as an independent lead mechanic OR adiploma/certificate in automotive mechanics and one year of experience as anindependent lead mechanic.
NOTE:Qualifying education training and experience that provide the requisiteknowledge skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered
Special Requirements
Must have and maintain avalid Alabama drivers license and an insurable driving record in order todrive city vehicles. Must be able to attend specialized training out oftown as needed to maintain or increase skills. Must be willing to respondto the Garage in order to make repairs to automotive vehicles after normalworking hours and be willing to be on call 24 hours during emergency situationsor when deemed necessary by the Sheriff or his designated representative.
