Job Description

K8 Health Teacher

JOB DESCRIPTION:
K8 Health teachers are responsible for utilizing districtadopted curriculum as well as other researchbased instructional tools to teach healthrelated concepts skills and strategies to students in grades K8. Teachers must work collaboratively with the Special Education and English as a Second Language teachers and support staff throughout the year to continually
improve the experience and performance of our students. Teachers should be well versed in providing accommodations for students whose IEPs dictate inclusion services in several content area settings. Teachers should also be well versed in Sheltered English Instruction (SEI) practices to support English Learners. Teachers must exercise culturally responsive practices to promote equity and respect for all students.


REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelors Degree in Health Education and/or Liberal Arts
Massachusetts Teaching Licensure in Health/Family & Consumer Science

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:
SEI Endorsement
Masters Degree in Education
3 or more years of elementary school teaching experience
Experience working in an urban public schools setting
Proficiency in Portuguese Spanish Haitian Creole or French

DUTIES
Plan and facilitate Health lessons for K8 students that are aligned with State Frameworks and National Health Education Standards.
Teach skills necessary to provide understanding and appreciation of health and wellness.
Collaborate and coplan with grade level teachers and districtwide Health teachers to provide the highest quality instruction and support for students.
Adapt the Health curriculum and differentiate instruction by using scaffolded instructional material inclusive practices and SEI strategies to meet the needs of all students.
Use all available technology and virtual curricula provided by the district to create engaging lessons and supports that are linked with 21st Century skills and remote accessibility.
Manage classroom behavior with strategies that motivate students and limit disruptions.
Incorporate Social Emotional Learning standards and curriculum that promote self confidence teambuilding and informed decision making.

Provide a clean safe and nurturing classroom environment.
Communicate with student families on a regular basis using culturally responsive strategies that promote twoway conversations.
Employ a strong growth mindset and participate in professional development that is relevant to the challenges of urban education in order to close opportunity gaps.
Collaborate with guidance counselors to refer students who are in need of social and emotional support.
Collaborate with Special Education leadership and teacher colleagues to review IEPs and ensure all accommodations are properly and consistently delivered.
Contribute to schoolwide initiatives and events which may be assigned by the district Health Coordinator Principal and Assistant Principal.

SALARY: Based on the Everett Teachers Association salary scale.
