Job Description

Position:

Speech Language Pathologist

Supervisor:

Health Wellness & Ancillary Coordinator

Work Site:

Assigned District Wide and/or assigned Head Start sites

Summary:

Provide Speech services for students receiving special education as a related service. Provide case management school staff consultation and serve in the Individual Education Program (IEP) team member when appropriate.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate speech language and general developmental skills of students.
  • Evaluate and report current levels of ability and recommendations for intervention.
  • Review and discuss medical and developmental case histories with the IEP team to determine individual student needs and strategies.
  • Develop treatment goals and activities for the specific need of the student and appropriate equipment or materials to be used in that treatment.
  • Provide consultative direct therapy services and ongoing support to students in appropriate environments as needed.
  • Provide consultation training and/or technical assistance to teachers and others involved in the education of students.
  • Document student progress and contact time including therapy logs and Medicaid reports.
  • Comply with all Board of Education policies administrative regulations Public Education Department guidelines and local state and federal laws.
  • Perform other duties as assigned reasonably related to the scope of the position

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Masters Degree with a certification by the American SpeechLanguageHearing Association
  • Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) or equivalent in the area of speechlanguage pathology
  • Professional competency as a speechlanguage pathologist
  • Current New Mexico licensure as well as NMPED license

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of Dine language culture and history preferred
  • Good communication skills and customer service skills

Physical/Job Requirements:

Standing sitting walking lifting carrying up to 50 pounds climbing bending reaching kneeling driving a vehicle traveling long distances writing typing word processing reading researching information and effective communication skills.

Safety and Health:

  • Knowledge of universal hygiene precautions
  • Background check

Equipment/Material Handled:

  • Multimedia equipment including current technology
  • Equipment/Materials relevant to job responsibilities including the Federal Register and Policy Guidelines Manual
  • Motor vehicle if necessary valid drivers license


Work Environment:

    • Must be able to work within various degrees of noise temperature and air quality
    • Work interruptions
    • Flexibility
    • Must be selfmotivated and able to complete job assignment without direct supervision
    • Must complete applications and assignments within the timeframes allowed
    • Extended work hours on occasion
