Confers with administrative and operating personnel regarding functions scopes and operational requirements of proposed buildings; or in connection with alteration requests in existing buildings and gathers other pertinent information regarding space utilization needed to prepare program statements justifications and space layouts.
Conducts surveys and makes recommendations as to site requirements for new facilities and the suitability of adequate buildings or sites.
Prepares requests for proposed capital projects and other construction or alteration projects including leased properties.
Coordinates capital projects and other building or alteration projects and represents the departments interests in contacts with the Chief Executive Office city State and Federal officials community planning agencies County and contract architects and engineers contractors lessors equipment manufacturers and personnel of involved agencies.
Approves plans and specifications prior to the start of constructions having ascertained that they are in conformity with the expressed needs of the department and in accordance with standards imposed by State or Federal agencies which participate financially.
Inspects capital projects and other building or alteration projects during and after construction to ensure the compliance with departments needs; evaluates proposed changes and makes recommendations.
Determines space needs in terms of anticipated operational requirements making projections and recommendations for short intermediate or long range building expansion programs.
Prepares drawings specifications and estimates for building alterations and equipment installations which are to be carried out by County building craftsmen.
Prepares preliminary cost estimates for major construction projects and ascertains that projects are kept within budgetary limitations; approves change orders for additional work.
Prepares applications to agencies which may participate financially in building projects and provides those agencies with technical or such other information and periodic reports as may be required. Prepares specifications for purchase of building equipment and evaluates bids received.
Expedites and coordinates delivery and installation of building equipment and ascertains that deficiencies are corrected during the warranty period.
Coordinates building and equipment maintenance telephone moving and miscellaneous related services incidental to primary responsibilities.
May be assigned other duties as directed by the positions immediate supervisor and/or higher management as required.

OPTION I
A Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university* AND two years of experience** in architectural work at theArchitectural Associate*** level in connection with the planning development design or coordination of large architectural building and alteration projects.
OPTION II
A Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university* AND two years of experience** as aPrincipal Facilities Planning Assistant****.
OPTION III
A Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university* AND two years of experience** in aresponsible staff capacity***** analyzing and making recommendations for the solution of problems of major building projects.
**Work experience must include use of industry standard ComputerAided Design for the preparation of site surveys preliminary layout drawings basic construction documents space planning feasibility studies and construction support for tenant improvements.
LICENSE:
A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out jobrelated essential functions.
PHYSICAL CLASS
Physical Class II Light: This class includes administrative and clerical positions requiring light physical effort that may include occasional light lifting to a 10pound limit and some bending stooping or squatting. Considerable ambulation may be involved.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT INFORMATION
Job captain refers to having the ability to provide technical direction to architectural design drafting personnel coordinates and prepares master plans feasibility studies space programs schematic design concepts and working drawings for various remodel projects. The job captain possesses good communication skills and has the ability to apply these skills and experiences to the design while facilitating various discussions with Department users other agencies and/or other situations to further develop the design.

*****Responsible Staff Capacity is defined as staff experience at the journeylevel requiring working knowledge of rules regulations and other guidelines relating to program area assigned. Responsible staff capacity means experience at the level of Los Angeles Countys class of Administrative Assistant II or higher.
Large projects are defined as new projects office remodels and tenant improvements.
Large or complex projects refers to projects that require more years of design experience and planning that are $2M or more in construction value.
Major projects are defined as larger projects in value in excess of $2M preparing concept and programming documents coordinating with other Countywide Departments larger tenant improvements and/or leased spaces to include major renovations/space enhancements.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Credit will be given to applicants who possess DESIRABLE qualifications and indicate so on their employment application at the time of filing.
SUPPLEMENTAL QUESTIONNAIRE
As part of this application process applicants will be required to complete a supplemental questionnaire. The questionnaire contains a preinvestigative questionnaire which will be utilized as part of the background investigation process to ensure applicants meet the standards set forth by the Los Angeles County Sheriffs Department. Applicants who fail the preinvestigative questionnaire will be disqualified and will have to wait three 3 months from the date of the disqualification in order to reapply.
EXAMINATION CONTENT
This examination will consist of two 2 parts.
PART I
An Evaluation of Education Training and Experience based on application information and desirable qualifications weighted 50.
PART II
An Oral Interview assessing applied experience interpersonal skills and customer orientation planning and organizing experience with construction project planning and management design and analysis knowledge of software applications knowledge of construction documents and space layouts drive motivation and initiative presentation skills problemsolving and decisionmaking ability construction project coordination and verbal communication weighted 50.
Applicants who are applying concurrently for Departmental Facilities Planner II Exam No. J4112I will participate in the interview one time. The resulting responses will be transferred to all applicable examinations for which you applied.
APPLICANTS MUST MEET THE SPECIALTY REQUIREMENTS AND MUST RECEIVE A COMBINED PASSING SCORE ON PARTS I AND II OF 70 OR HIGHER IN ORDER TO BE PLACED ON THE ELIGIBLE REGISTER.
TRANSFER OF TEST COMPONENTS
Applicants who have taken any identical test with the Sheriffs Department within the last six 6 months will have their responses automatically transferred to this examination.
This examination contains test components that may be used in the future for new examinations and your test responses may be transferred.
TESTING ACCOMMODATION

Please note you will be provided with an initial deadline to submit documentation. VETERANS CREDIT
If you served in the military and were honorably discharged you may qualify for Veterans Credit. To receive this credit please include a copy of your DD214 Form issued by the branch of servicewith your application for review.
ELIGIBILITY INFORMATION
The names of candidates receiving a passing grade in the examination will be placed on the eligible register in the order of their score group for a period of six 6 months following the date of promulgation. Applications will be processed on an asreceivedbasis and those receiving a passing score will be promulgated to the eligible register accordingly.
NO PERSON MAY COMPETE IN THIS EXAMINATION MORE THAN ONCE EVERY SIX 6 MONTHS.
SPECIAL INFORMATION
SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATES MUST COMPLETE A THOROUGH BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION INCLUDING FINGERPRINT SEARCH. Examples of disqualifying factors include: Any felony convictions; job related misdemeanor convictions; certain serious traffic convictions or patterns of traffic violations 3 moving violations in one year; failure to appear; at fault accidents; suspended license; driving under the influence); poor credit history; poor employment history; substance abuse; anyone on probation.
