Job Description

Last year Franklin Cummings Tech educated more than 1000 learners across three student types: 1 certificate and degree seekers 2 continuing education clients and 3 high schoolers pursuing early college. As further evidence that our mission holds resonance this year the college tracked a 25 yearoveryear jump in fall new student enrollment and applications soared.

Requirements

Position Responsibilities:

The HVAC Lab Assistant position supports the HVAC instructor in providing a handson practical learning environment for students. The role involves assisting with basic electrical and refrigeration systems preparing lab materials maintaining a safe and organized lab space and ensuring supplies are readily available. This position is essential for enhancing student learning fostering technical skill development and maintaining lab operations.

The ideal candidate will have practical experience with HVAC systems a passion for teaching and learning strong organizational skills and a commitment to student success.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lab Preparation and Maintenance:
    • Prepare set up and organize materials tools and equipment for lab sessions.
    • Maintain inventory of supplies and identify needed materials for lab activities.
    • Ensure all lab equipment is in proper working order and perform minor maintenance as required.
  • Student Support:
    • Assist students during lab sessions with handson activities troubleshooting and understanding HVAC concepts.
    • Promote safe practices in the lab and ensure students follow safety protocols.
    • Provide individual or group guidance to enhance mastery of basic electrical and refrigeration systems.
  • Administrative Duties:
    • Collaborate with the HVAC instructor to align lab activities with course objectives.
    • Track and document student participation and progress in lab activities.
    • Communicate effectively with the instructor and department chair regarding lab needs issues or concerns.
  • Other Duties:
    • Ensure the lab environment is clean organized and safe.
    • Participate in departmental meetings or training sessions when required

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education and Experience:
    • High school diploma or equivalent; HVAC certification or enrollment in an HVAC program preferred.
    • Handson experience in basic electrical and refrigeration systems.
  • Skills:
    • Strong organizational communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to troubleshoot and solve technical problems related to HVAC equipment.
    • Familiarity with HVAC lab tools and safety procedures.
  • Other Qualifications:
    • Demonstrated ability to work with students or in an educational setting.
    • Commitment to fostering a collaborative and inclusive environment.
