Job Description

Primary Purpose:

Coordinate the Section 504 programs for the district. Provides leadership and oversight for services regulated under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act to ensure compliance with all state federal and local requirements.

Education / Certification:

  1. Masters degree in education administration or curriculum and instruction.
  2. Valid Texas Midmanagement or other appropriate Texas certificate and/or experience as a Coordinator.
  3. Valid Texas teaching certificate.

Special Knowledge / Skills:

  1. Knowledge of Section 504 regulations.
  2. Knowledge of federal and state special education laws.
  3. Ability to communicate effectively with parents and staff.
  4. Ability to implement policy and procedures.
  5. Ability to interpret data.
  6. Ability to manage budget.
  7. Ability to coordinate district functions.
  8. Strong organizational communication and interpersonal skills.

Experience / Other Requirements:

  1. Five years of professional educational experience.
  2. Personal cell phone is required to handle district related business including after hours or when away from the office on district business.

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Instructional and Program Management

  1. Coordinate Section 504 services to meet student needs.
  2. Work cooperatively with directors and campus principals in developing and implementing dyslexia and/or Section 504 programs.
  3. Consult with and assist campusbased administrators professionals teachers and parents to meet the educational needs of students eligible for Section 504 services.
  4. Assist campus teams in writing 504 plans that allow student access to the full range of educational and cocurricular opportunities that are available to all other eligible students in the district. Evaluate the necessity for specific accommodations.
  5. Ensure student progress is evaluated on a systematic basis and that findings are used to make the Section 504 program more effective.
  6. Assist in coordinating and planning with outside agencies or persons who act as independent advocates of students where a 504 evaluation has been requested or where a 504 grievance or formal written complaint has been made.
  7. Promote coordinate and disseminate communication among staff teachers students and the community regarding the prevention of discrimination based on disability as appropriate.
  8. Assist campuses in the development implementation and/or participation in professional development of instructional methodologies that allow curriculum accommodations and differentiated instruction based on student learning needs resulting from dyslexia a disability specific condition or impairment.
  9. Participate in the districtlevel decisionmaking process to establish and review the districts goals and objectives in the area of Section 504.
  10. Provide effective staff development activities that incorporate the mission of the district program evaluation outcomes and input from 504 coordinators and others.

Policy Reports and Law

  1. Recommend sound policies to improve program.
  2. Implement the policies established by federal and state law State Board of Education rule and local board policy in the area of Section 504.
  3. Compile maintain and present all physical and computerized reports records and other documents required.

Budget and Inventory

  1. Participate in development preparation and administration of budget for supplies and equipment and ensure that the program is costeffective and that funds are managed wisely.
  2. Assist with the selection and purchase of supplemental equipment and supplies for the program.
  3. Maintain a current inventory of supplies and equipment and recommend the replacement and disposal of equipment when necessary.
  4. Participate in grantwriting activities to obtain program funding.

Policy Reports and Law

  1. Responsible for properly maintaining district records adhering to all policies set forth by the district for records maintenance and learning the records retention schedule for department records. Compile maintain and file all reports records and other documents required. Ensure that accurate atrisk and dropout data is reported through PEIMS.
  2. Comply with policies established by federal and state law State Board of Education rule and the local board policy.
  3. Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  4. Perform other duties as assigned.
