Overview

The CMA at Grundy Center Family Practice is responsible for assisting the provider with front office and back office duties in the outpatient management of patients on a rotating basis. This position is a vital part of the office team that cares for patients in the clinic setting working under the direction of a physician and working closely with the physicians other clinical staff and front office staff. Additionally CMA/LPN is responsible for a variety of clinical functions within a clinic setting requiring knowledge and integration of available standards resources and data; discretion; good judgment; diplomacy; decision making; and a customer service attitude. Acting as the patient advocate the clinical care attendant has continuous contact with physicians patients patient families/ significant others community agencies and patient care staff and management
Responsibilities
- Assist provider and other clinical staff with obtaining basic vital information preparing patient for examination treatment and minor surgical procedures.
- Demonstrates competence in the clinical skills necessary to carry out assigned job duties.
- Responsible for tracking system for followup appointments related to office visits laboratory tests and procedures to regularly follow patients monitoring disease status.
- Schedule referrals for patients with specialist or outpatient as requested by the provider.
- Complete appropriate forms or requisitions needed for referrals or lab testing including appropriate CPT/ICD10 coding.
- Answer questions and provide teaching to patients and family members.
- Provide appropriate and timely documentation in the patients electronic health record using standardized workflows and processes.
- Provide information to appropriate regulatory agencies (i.e. health department).
- Thoroughly understand testing (lab and procedures) values and relationship to patient status with accountability to take next steps as appropriate to scope and licensure.
- Be aware of what is happening in clinic/department and the organization by attending clinic/department meetings reading emails and regularly checking information on the organizations intranet site.
- Perform other duties as requested by Clinic Administrator to facilitate the smooth and effective operations of the office.
Qualifications
Required:
- Current CMA certification.
- High school diploma required if work is performed in a moderately complex CLIA lab.
- BLS and Mandatory Reporter certification.
- Valid drivers license when driving any vehicle for workrelated reasons.
- Writes reads comprehends and speaks fluent English
- Multicultural sensitivity
- Microsoft Office basic computer skills.
- Customer/patient focused
- Critical thinking skills using independent judgment in making decisions
- Use of usual and customary equipment used to perform essential functions of the position.
Preferred:
- Previous clinical experience in a medical office preferred.
