Job Description

This is a long term substitute position from January June 2025

District Overview:

Overview of the Malden Public Schools: The Malden Public Schools (MPS) is a richly diverse school district located within the Greater Boston area and accessible by the MBTA orange line train. Maldens student body comprises approximately 6800 students who represent 59 different countries and speak 67 different languages. We have 1 early learning center 5 K8 schools and 1 high school. Malden Public Schools is seeking a trilingual certified ESL teacher to coordinate intake assessment and placement of English Learners.

Qualifications:

  • MA DESE teacher licensein ESL Prek8 and SEITeacher Endorsement required
  • Knowledge of Malden Public Schools and the English Language Learning programs.
  • Intermediate fluency in three languages: preferably; Portuguese Spanish and Haitian Creole
  • Ability to verify and maintain accuracy of confidential student information in English and preferably in other languages
  • Ability to adapt to changes in work situations and priorities based on student enrollment trends

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Administer the WIDA screener to all students whose Home Language Survey identifies the need.
  • Use WIDA screener results to support program placement decisions in collaboration with the ELL Director and Welcome Center Manager
  • Complete required paperwork enters it into the computer and facilitates exchange of documentation between the schools parents and the English Language Learning Program
  • Comply with federal and state regulations and classification mandates for english Learners
  • Support Parent Information Center personnel with translation support if needed.
  • Assess students at the PreK level.
  • Provide families and caregivers guidance in the school enrollment process for English
  • Maintain student/family confidentiality
  • Coordinate MA DESE ELPAC meetings with ELL Director

Reports to: Director of English Learner Education & Title III

Salary:
$135/Day Retired Teacher w/ DESE Certification
$125/Day DESE Teaching Certification
$100/Day No Certification

If a substitute holds a Bachelors degree or a Teaching License and they serve in thesameassignment for a 30 consecutive work day probationary period they are eligible to have their pay rate increased to a per diem rate of $210/day for the remainder of their current assignment; pay returns to the daily rate at the conclusion of their assignment; however if they move to another longterm assignment within a month they do not have to restart the probationary period again and may continue receiving the per diem rate. Requests to move to the per diem rate at the end of probationary period must be made to and confirmation will be submitted to payroll.
