The Department of Natural Resources Division of Mining Land & Wateris recruiting for an Analyst/Programmer 1 position in Anchorage.


This position is open to Alaska Residents only.

What You Will Be Doing:

You will be doing the following work in our division section. Perform Coding in C# JavaScript and other programming languages that may apply within DMLW websites and database and application systems. Work with upperlevel programmers to learn the use of software/applications/datasets within DMLW business platforms. Document methodologies and file organization of all work related to programming within databases and application systems. Assist in addressing issues via the Support Ticketing System. Continue learning to improve processes within the IT section by working with other analyst programmers on special projects and other duties as needed completing correspondence and time sheets and attending meetings with the IT team and DMLW application users as needed.

Within this framework the Division of Mining Land and Waters (DMLW) manages stateowned land and water overseeing approximately 105 million acres of upland tideland and submerged land. The Working Environment You Can Expect:

This position is located on the 10th floor of the Atwood Building in downtown Anchorage. Parking is provided in the Linny Pacillo Parking Garage directly across the street from the Atwood building. The core office hours are from 8:00 AM5:00 PM Monday Friday with a 7hour daily work schedule. IT schedules vary with each teammate as we understand the needs of all users schedules are different as well. The daily routine for this position consists of collaboration on projects in all forms. The environment is very relaxed and fun yet collaborative in task orientation (SCRUM daily) supportive empathetic respectful and held accountable by effective communication in the work and support we provide within the team and to our users.


We are looking for a candidate who possesses the following positionspecific competencies.

  • Analysis and Assessment: Uses information technology to access collect analyze maintain and disseminate data and information.
  • Computer Languages: Knowledge of computer languages and their applications to enable a system to perform specific functions.
  • Computer Skills: Uses computers software applications databases and automated systems to accomplish work.
  • Software Development: Knowledge of the principles methods and tools for designing developing and testing software in a given environment.
  • Technical Documentation: Knowledge of procedures for developing technical and operational support documentation.

Minimum Qualifications

Successful completion of nine 9 semester hours of collegelevel coursework in computer languages or system analysis.

OR

Three months of actual computer programming experience.

OR

One year of work experience using a computer for analysis including experience in the use of computer reporting languages spreadsheets or statistical packages.

Special Note:

An applicant who will complete the required collegelevel coursework within three 3 months of hire qualifies to apply for this job class. An applicant qualifying under this option may receive a job offer conditional upon completion of the required collegelevel coursework and proof of completion will be required prior to final appointment and reporting for duty.

Individual positions at each level in this class series may require expertise in a particular area of programming or analysis. Recruitment and selection will be on the basis of these requirements.

For some positions in these job classes a background investigation including fingerprinting is required.
