Job Description

VersaDesk is seeking a Controller to play a critical role in our companys next phase of hypergrowth. This position requires a strategic leader with extensive experience both leading daily accounting operations and driving financial strategy. The ideal candidate will be adept at supporting marketingfocused budgets optimizing financial processes and providing actionable insights to guide the organization through rapid scalingprofitably and sustainably. This role is critical to ensuring financial stability while supporting ambitious growth goals.

We are specifically looking for a highimpact individual who has a proven track record of turning companies around particularly in situations involving tight cash flow and complex financial challenges. The right candidate will have successfully navigated turbulent financial periods with confidence precision and creativityimplementing systems cutting waste and finding innovative solutions to improve liquidity and financial health.

Expertise in vendor relationship management is also essential. This role will require strong negotiation skills the ability to extend payment terms and experience managing critical vendor partnerships to keep operations running smoothly while preserving cash. Were also looking for someone who has introduced unconventional or resourceful methods of financingsuch as assetbased lending strategic partnerships or creative deal structuringthat have supported business continuity and expansion in lean times.

Beyond the numbers this role will serve as a true business partner to the CEO. The Controller will be the CEOs righthand person heavily leaned on to help direct daytoday operations from a financial perspective. This includes working closely with leadership across departments to align financial planning with company strategy ensuring that every dollar spent contributes meaningfully to VersaDesks mission growth and profitability.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Financial Operations & Leadership:
  • Oversee all accounting functions including budgeting financial reporting forecasting and cash flow management.
  • Provide strategic financial insights to the executive team to support scalable growth initiatives.
  • Ensure the accuracy and efficiency of accounts receivable and payable functions.
• Marketing Budget Partnership:
  • Collaborate closely with the CEO to develop and monitor budgets for digital marketing advertising and ecommerce initiatives.
  • Provide financial guidance on marketing spend ensuring alignment with ROI goals and overall company strategy.
• Tax Planning and Compliance:
  • Lead all tax planning and compliance efforts ensuring adherence to federal state and local regulations.
  • Identify costsaving opportunities through strategic tax management and ensure timely and accurate filings.
• Team Development & Leadership:
  • Mentor and manage a team of three accounting professionals fostering a culture of accountability growth and excellence.
  • Build team capacity to meet the evolving financial needs of a scaling organization.
• Insights & DataDriven Decision Making:
  • Prepare and present detailed financial reports and actionable insights to executive leadership and stakeholders.
  • Analyze financial data to identify trends risks and opportunities particularly within marketing and sales performance.
• Process and System Optimization:
  • Drive process improvements and implement scalable financial systems to support operational efficiency and growth.
  • Enhance internal controls to ensure compliance and mitigate risks.
• CrossFunctional Collaboration:
  • Partner with Marketing Sales and Supply Chain teams to align financial operations with organizational goals.
  • Act as a key advisor to department heads providing financial expertise to support decisionmaking.

Basic Requirements

• Bachelors degree in Accounting Finance or a related field (CPA or MBA preferred)
• Minimum of 10 years of accounting experience including 5 years in a leadership role
• Strong expertise in budgeting and financial management for digital marketing and ecommerce platforms
• Handson experience managing accounts receivable and accounts payable processes
• Proven experience in tax planning and compliance with a focus on cost savings
• Demonstrated ability to manage advertising budgets effectively
• Strong business operations background is preferred
• Exceptional analytical and problemsolving skills with attention to detail
• Proficiency in financial software and ERP systems; experience with QuickBooks is a plus
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments
• Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire a team in a fastpaced innovative environment
