Job Description

Education/Training Specialist II

Job Description:
This position involves coordinating with the PLT Steering Committee and the national office to oversee the strategic planning and implementation of programs across Florida. The program currently has approximately 20 active trained volunteer facilitators who lead workshops and 10 volunteer steering committee members. A key focus of this role is to maintain and expand the volunteer base while organizing the statewide PLT conference. The position also includes coordinating supervising and providing leadership to PLT volunteers and students involved in the program.

This role involves collaborating with the state 4H office to organize the 4H Forest Ecology Contest and assist with the 4H Nature Poetry Contest. The position includes identifying emerging issues and opportunities to support FFGS and state environmental education programs. The individual will work with FFGS faculty and staff to develop and enhance environmental education youth development and extension programs. Additionally this position will coordinate and oversee volunteers for 4H contests and events. The role also entails liaising with the Florida Forest Service Florida Forestry Association Friends of Florida State Forests and other relevant organizations to plan and organize the Florida Teachers Tour providing participants with opportunities to engage in various PLT activities.
This role involves evaluating and reporting on the effectiveness of PLT and related youth programs within FFGS. Responsibilities include assisting with scholarly work in environmental education such as developing and administering evaluation surveys and interviews analyzing data and preparing reports on program outcomes. The position also requires close coordination with the environmental education faculty member in FFGS.
This position involves formulating and managing program budgets by soliciting donations building relationships writing grant proposals and collaborating with FFGS fiscal staff to track expenditures oversee budgets and meet reporting requirements.
This role involves enhancing and refining resources to strengthen youth programs and align with curricular needs. Responsibilities include coordinating the acquisition and distribution of print and online materials from thePLT national program and developing or distributing materials related to the 4H Forest Ecology and Nature Poetry Contests. The position also entails identifying updating and creating new instructional resources for environmental education lessons such as activities slide presentations background information videos websites and manuals. Additionally this role involves periodically updating existing resources and collaborating with Florida educators.
This role involves developing and implementing a communication plan to support the programs objectives. Responsibilities include creating communication activities to market the program engage and motivate volunteers attract donors and address educational needs. The position also entails managing the website and social media channels developing a bimonthly enewsletter overseeing the newsletter listserv and writing and editing various promotional materials and reports.
Other job duties as assigned.
Expected Salary:

$55000 $60000

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelors degree in an appropriate area and four years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
Masters degree in an appropriate area; or a bachelors degree in an appropriate area and two years of relevant experience.
Experience managing an environmental education program particularly teacher workshops and volunteers
Demonstrated ability to lead and evaluate a program
Project management and administration skills
Knowledge of environmental education natural resources and environmental issues
Ability to work independently with direction
Ability to work with diverse groups and teams including faculty and volunteers
Supervisory skills
Event planning and coordination for workshops and conferences
Excellent oral and written communication skills for traditional and online delivery (websites newsletters and social media)
Excellent interpersonal communication and facilitation skills
Database management skills and organizational ability
Fundraising (developing proposals building relationships with funders and producing results) skills are essential; successful track record is desired
Knowledge of Floridas educational reform efforts; adult education and training; and education program development and evaluation preferred.
