POSITION SUMMARY:
These general functions will be carried out in keeping with the Goals policy and Mission of the YMCA of the East Bay. The Education Specialist monitors compliance with Head Start Program Performance Standards reports on progress and performs other related work as required. This position requires travel to YMCA of the East Bay Early Learning Centers in Alameda and Contra Costa Counties.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Monitor center compliance with Head Start Program Performance Standards California Department of Education Funding Terms and Conditions and the California Department of Social Services Community Care Licensing in the area of Education Services. This includes but is not limited to: early childhood development and education implementation of curriculum fidelity planning and connect outcomes to professional development.
Conduct site visits to ensure that all centers are compliant with implementing curriculum per the Head Start Program Performance Standards.
Prepare regular reports based on monitoring findings including an analysis of the findings.
Create and followup on corrective action plans which corresponds to monitoring findings.
Work in conjunction with the Program ManagerEducation and Center Directors to train mentor center staff identify appropriate resources to improve their skills and knowledge develop new and innovative ways of training staff. Participate in staff training.
Investigate products and services such as educational materials related to outcomes
Participate in Quality Counts and other relevant committees
Review current research in the area of Education and attend classes and workshops for professional development.
Assist in the implementation of the annual SelfAssessment.
Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing and interact with staff children and parents in a positive manner.
Perform other duties as required.
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Sufficient strength agility and mobility to perform essential functions and to supervise program activities in a wide variety of indoor and outdoor locations
Must be able to work on a computer for an extended period of time
Ability to lift up to 30 pounds
Must be able to travel locally for meetings training and special events

QUALIFICATIONS:
Must possess one of the following: Child Development Permit at the level of Associate Teacher or higher or qualify for one: OR a credential authorizing teaching in elementary school including 12 units of early childhood education; OR a single subject credential in Home Economics including 12 units of early childhood education; OR Child Development Associate credential; OR meet qualifications as specified for a Head Teacher by Community Care Licensing regulations depending on the program for which employed
Permits must be renewed and remain valid to maintain employment at the Teacher level
Must have knowledge of components of quality early childhood education and State of California Head Start Performance Standards
The ability and sensitivity to work with a multiethnic community
Upon initial hiring employee must be fingerprinted according to rules for Community Care Licensing for a criminal record clearance
Criminal record clearance and health requirements that include physical exam TB and immunizations
Proficiency in Microsoft Word Outlook and other computer programs
