Hospital Safety Officer
The University of Miami/UHealth Department of OHSC has a Full Time opportunity for a Hospital Safety Officer to work at the UHealth Medical Campus. The Hospital Safety Officer (H) is responsible for ensuring that all Joint Commission guidelines for the Physical Environment of Care standards at the assigned hospital and/or hospital based clinics remain compliant. This includes annual review and completion of the Periodic Performance Review (PPR) which include the following Joint Commission Chapters: Life Safety (LS) Emergency Management (EM) and Environment of Care (EOC).
Ensures that all Joint Commission guidelines for the EOC Life Safety and EM chapters at the hospitals and clinics remain compliant. This includes annual review and completion of the Periodic Performance Review (PPR).
Coordinates and oversees all AHCA CMS OSHA and all other applicable AHJ standards.
Coordinates activities of the management plans within the Environment of care for the hospital and serves as the Safety Officer. Cochairs EOC Committee with the Director of the EOC Compliance.
Provides support to the Director of EOC Compliance regarding safety improvement efforts.
Ensures safety and facility quality control is in compliance with local federal state regulations and provide consultations.
Department Specific Functions
Implements plans for the maintenance and management of assigned facilities ensuring effective use of resources and alignment with organizational goals.
Manages work orders oversees materials and equipment acquisition and coordinates special projects.
Collaborates with internal teams and external vendors to review and execute proposals for projects and repairs.
Delivers training programs to ensure compliance with regulatory and organizational standards.
Delivers safety training to University faculty staff and students per regulatory requirements and as needed.
Advises on safe work practices and potential hazards.
Coordinates with other departments to organize special events and maintain highquality safe facilities.
Facilitates communication to align operations with organizational policies and goals.
Maintains accurate records of training work orders and other operational data.
Prepares reports to support performance improvement and compliance efforts.
Ensures operations align with relevant safety quality and regulatory standards.
Supports continuous improvement efforts and assists in evaluating and implementing internal controls.
Participates in meetings workshops and conferences to remain up to date with emergency safety health and environmental issues and regulations.
Participates in facility renovation and construction activity reviews to identify safety concerns and provide recommendations for safe environments.

Core Qualifications
High School diploma or equivalent
Minimum 5 years of relevant experience
Certification in relevant specialty or field.
Preferably:
Certified Hospital Safety Professional preferred
FEMA
OSHA 30 HR
HAZWOPER 40 HR
Knowledge Skills and Attitudes:
Ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships.
