It is the mission of Tungasuvvingat Inuit (TI) to broadly provide Inuitspecific programs that contribute to the health and wellbeing of Inuit and to encourage and support similar programs for Inuit across the country. With over 30 years of highly successful experience in crafting the design development and delivery of a wide range of effective clientcentered services TI continues to deliver quality programs and services that directly benefit our growing urban Inuit population.
The Assistant Director of Healing and Wellness will support the Director of Healing and Wellness in leading and managing the organizations wellness and healing programs. This role will help ensure the integration of Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit (IQ) and Inuit values into all services fostering a culturally integrated and holistic approach to health and wellness for urban Inuit. The Assistant Director under the mentorship of the Director of Healing and wellness will also provide daytoday management of staff including the Inuit Health Liaison Ontario Inuit Cancer Care Team and Counselling Team and assist in the design implementation and evaluation of wellness programs.
Responsibilities:
Staff Supervision Human Resources and Capacity Building
Knowledge of and appreciation for Inuit culture and values and exemplifying the 8 Guiding Principles of Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit; Knowledge of the unique needs and issues impacting Inuit communities. Familiarity with Inuit history and the impacts of colonization and the legacy of: Inuit colonization; Residential Schools; Intergenerational trauma; Ontarios Inuit history; Social determinants of health/socioeconomic issues/needs. Understanding of government systems programs policies and processes. Program and project design planning budgeting management and evaluation experience. Canadian/Ontario mental health act child act and related legislation.
The ideal candidate should have excellent interpersonal skills along with the ability to work effectively in a crosscultural environment. Outstanding organizational skills that reflect ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks seamlessly with excellent attention to detail. Expert level written and verbal communication skills with a solid grasp of grammar spelling and punctuation. Demonstrated proactive approaches to problemsolving with strong decisionmaking capability. Strong research and analysis skills. Problemsolving decision making project management team building and time management skills. Adept with Microsoft Office suite Adobe Acrobat and Human Resource Information System (HRIS).
Highly resourceful teamplayer with the ability to also be extremely effective independently. Proven ability to handle confidential information with discretion. Be adaptable to various competing demands. Be available to cover for Director in absence. Demonstrate the highest level of internal and external customer/client service and response. Demonstrated ability to achieve high performance goals and meet deadlines in a fastpaced environment. Demonstrated proposal writing experience. Forward looking thinker who actively seeks opportunities and proposes solutions. Ability to prepare proposals briefings notes proposals and reports
Community College degree with a combination of relevant experience and knowledge; University degree in Business Administration Health Administration or demonstrablyrelated field is required. Mastered degree in Business Administration Health Administration or demonstrablyrelated field is preferred. Executive/Business coaching certification is preferred.
Five years experience working in the mental health field and program management is required. Three years experience overseeing groups of over 10 employees management experience dealing with progressively complex environments and experience in budget preparation and oversight is required. Three years previous experience working with Inuit and/or other Indigenous populations is preferred.
Proficient use of MS Word Excel PowerPoint Outlook videoconferencing platforms and electronic records management applications and a clear Vulnerable Sector Check with results acceptable to TI is required. Fluency English and availability to work evening and weekends in required. Ability to speak Inuktitut and valid drivers license and own reliable vehicle is preferred.
