ADST/STEM Specialist Full Time Continuing
Kenneth Gordon Maplewood School is an Independent coeducational K12 school. We are one of a few dedicated Special Education Schools in BC serving students not only from the North Shore but drawing students from across the lower mainland. We follow the BC Ministry of Education curriculum while adapting and differentiating instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners. We incorporate Inquiry and Experiential Learning Universal Design for Learning and socialemotional education to deliver a comprehensive educational experience. Students in our high school program are working towards the Dogwood Graduation program and engage in successive experiences focussed on being ready to launch towards individualized pathways postgraduation.
Reporting to the Principal this role is primarily focussed on the High School (Grades 1012 with possible extension to Middle School (Grades 79 and will be responsible for teaching ADST/STEMrelated courses and developing an energized and robust ADST program at the school. We welcome applications that represent the diversity of ADST courses including robotics engineering computer sciences woodworking drafting home economics culinary studies textiles etc.
Qualifications:
- Canadian residency and be legally entitled to work in Canada
- A valid BC teaching certificate or Independent School Certification qualifying criteria
- Experience education or training with diverse learners
- Experience education and training in mathematics ADSTrelated and STEM or STEAMrelated subjects. including:
- Familiarity with CAD software (AutoCAD SketchUp TinkerCAD) and 3D printing
- Familiarity with Electronics and robotics (VEX or FIRST Robotics LEGO SPIKE Raspberry Pi Arduino)
- Familiarity with Media Arts (Adobe Canva Procreate iMovie)
- Familiarity with Programming (Scratch Java Python C)
- Proficient knowledge of educational and assistive technologies and applications
- Experience education or training in inquirybased learning pedagogies and universal design for learning strategies.
- Current knowledge and experiences with BC Ministry of Education curriculum assessment and reporting expectations.
- Superior skills in selfawareness selfmanagement and selfadvocacy
- Fluent communication skills in English both oral and written
- Strong organisational communication administrative and interpersonal skills
- The ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team
Responsibilities: - Uphold Professional Standards for BC Educators
- Planning delivery assessment and reporting for courses and programs aligned with approved BC and/or school curriculum as directed by the Principal
- Accommodate inclusive education needs of students including behaviour plans and Individual Education Plans
- Support the development and tracking of Individual Education Plans as part of the collaborative schoolbased team
- Serve as an Inclusive Education Plan case manager for a group of students over 3 years.
- Participate in school life programs including Support Block Advisory Outdoor School Days Career Education SocialEmotional Learning etc.
- Creating cocurricular opportunities for students
- Managing inventorying and budgeting supplies
- Utilise Google Classroom as a learning platform and MyEd to report attendance.
- Other duties as required
Salary and benefits are paid as per the BCGEU collective agreement. $53890.55 $107445.55 Depending on category and step
