Job Description

Department Overview

OHSU is Oregons only public academic health center. We are a system of hospitals and clinics across Oregon and southwest Washington. We are an institution of higher learning with schools of medicine nursing pharmacy dentistry and public health and with a network of campuses and partners throughout Oregon. And as a public organization we provide services for the most vulnerable Oregonians and outreach to improve health in communities across the state.

This position provides support to the Specialty Pharmacy Program and other teams to support patient access to

medications. The position is the point of contact for many interdisciplinary teams. The position prioritizes time

sensitive duties is responsible for adhering to standard work and operating with accuracy and accountability.

Function/Duties of Position

  • Follow workflows to process incoming prescription orders to determinecoverage seek authorization assist with financial support identification andapplication and process refill requests per protocol.
  • Provider telephonic outreach and electronic outreach to patients providerspharmacies manufacturer programs and others as needed to complete tasks.

  • Manage incoming assigned tasks and follow up on assigned tasks over timeto ensure complete resolution.

  • Cover work assigned to other team members as needed to supportoperations and expected turn around times.

  • Triage work appropriately to pharmacists technician team membersinterdisciplinary team members.

  • Utilize the electronic medical record as well as other platforms to gatherinformation and document per team standards.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma active State of Oregon Pharmacy Technician LicenseAND
  • 1 year of pharmacy work experience or equivalent additional education; AND
  • Certification from the national Pharmacy Technician Certification BoardOR
  • National Healthcareer Association. Certification must be maintained.

Job Related KnowledgeSkills and Abilities(Competencies):

  • Computer keyboarding skills.
  • Ability to read and understand medicalrelated terms.

  • Ability to perform basic pharmaceutical mathematics calculations.

  • Skill at manipulating small objects e.g. needles syringes ampules.

  • Ability to establish priorities in workflow.

  • Good interpersonal communication skills.

  • Ability to work under supervision of diverse Pharmacists.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Formal pharmacy technician training program
  • Medical office setting experience or health system experience
  • Inpatient and outpatient hospital pharmacy experience.
  • Medical and scientific nomenclature.
  • Microsoft application knowledge (Word Excel Visio Outlook)

Additional Details

Possible exposure to hazardous chemicals and noise. Understand the difference of nonhazardous andhazardous medications; safely handle hazardous medications per regulatory guidelines. Flexibility inscheduling of shift times. Accountability for accuracy associated with performance of the duties to thisposition.
