About Focus on Renewal

The Focus On Renewal StoRox Neighborhood Corporation (FOR) was founded in 1969. FOR founders led a group of mobilized citizens and community activists to create an umbrella organization for muchneeded social services now ranging from food security nutrition early childhood education support groups crime prevention and mental health services. Also included are arts programs for all ages and access to the StoRox Public Library.

FOR has now grown to house 30 staff at four locations throughout McKees Rocks and Stowe Township. The Organization provides support to the people in our neighborhood through programs for all ages designed to develop resilient contributing members of a thriving community. We work with a wide range of partners to ensure highquality programming is accessible to all 13000 residents of the StoRox Community.

Overview

In 2023 Allegheny County Department of Human Services (DHS) launched its Community Violence Reduction Initiative. This initiative includes launching hyper local community violence intervention and prevention programs in communities in Allegheny County most impacted by community violence. To ensure these initiatives are well directed and coordinated DHS has established local Community Quarterback roles in each of the intervention communities to:

  • Work with DHS and technical assistance partners to ensure that Community Violence Reduction programs progress successfully.
  • Convene DHS and nonDHS funded violence intervention and prevention strategies as a collective impact model backbone.
  • Serve as a relational support for nonlocal technical assistance partners.
  • Participate in countywide convenings under the larger umbrella of the Community Violence Reduction Initiative.
  • Complete any contract reporting requirements required by DHS including providing data on:
  • clients served
  • relationships and meetings with community partners
  • interventions and mediations regarding incidences of violence
  • incidences of violence in the community and
  • care services and referrals delivered to clients.


Each Community Quarterback will designate a Program and Outreach Coordinator who will be primarily responsible for ensuring the successful of the aforementioned tasks.


Requirements

Coordinator Duties

  • Schedule and organize programrelated meetings and events.
  • Manage meeting case management and communication systems for program operations such as video conferencing technology presentation software data collection/management software and other communications technologies.
  • Routine data monitoring of violence reduction programs being implemented at that site including meetings with program managers to discuss program progress.
  • Identify intervention and prevention programmatic gaps with implementing partners and help create recommended solutions.
  • Participate in regular meetings with programmatic technical assistance providers (model developer) for program planning and implementation.
  • Assist with grant and/or proposal writing as appropriate for gap funding related to the program.
  • Execute backbone activities associated with convening local violence prevention programs and efforts.
  • Connect regional and national program developers consultants and other stakeholders with pertinent local on the ground community and program leaders.
  • Facilitate positive partnerships between the implementing partners technical assistance providers and others engaged in the initiative.
  • Maintain and foster new relationships with the local community stakeholders for the purpose of successful program implementation and initiative awareness.
  • With support from the DHS project manager oversee the of program activities for implementing partners ensuring implementing partners are meeting key milestones and executing program activities.
  • Oversee the Community Quarterback program budget including tracking billing payments and other financial transactions.
  • Oversee the use of technology for program operations such as video conferencing technology presentation software and other communications technologies for instance
  • Create and maintain program records reports and presentations and provide required reports and information to DHS.

General Requirements

  • Bachelors or associates degree in a relevant field preferred or equivalent experience.
  • 35 years of experience directly related to program coordination and community/stakeholder outreach.
  • Experience facilitating small and largescale gatherings with various constituencies.
  • Excellent organizational skills specifically organizing elements of a complex multipronged program.
  • Experience coordinating and organizing meetings and/or special events.
  • Excellent communication engagement skills with the ability to communicate effectively in various environments and settings with a variety of audiences.
  • A high level understanding of collective impact preferred or a willingness to learn.
  • Knowledge of community violence reduction programming or a willingness to learn.
  • Excellent knowledge of the community preferred.
  • Lived experience among groups most affected by community violence preferred.
