Job Description

Position Specifics
The Crate Assembler/Crater assembles crates for shipping of sub components and complete machines according specifications by performing some of the following duties as assigned. This position requires someone who is comfortable with constructing and assembling crates using various sizes of wood which will house large machinery parts. Carpenters woodworkers and anyone who can use saws and nail guns to confidently assemble large crates by looking at an item and determining the best way to assemble a crate for it would be an ideal candidate.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Understands and utilizes instruction sheets drawings specifications and paperwork describing job etc. Interprets when required.
  • Uses table saw radial arm saw panel saw hand skill saw pneumatic staple and nail guns hand tools drills hammer wrench and screwdriver (air electrical and manual) overhead crane forklift and measuring instruments to assemble crates. Tools weigh no more than 5 pounds.
  • Assembles crates using plywood studs cardboard and measuring tools. Must be able to calculate size of crate needed using specifications and build accordingly.
  • Inspects each crate to verify quality at completion.
  • Confers with manufacturing finished goods inventory clerk and parts shipping clerk to insure crates are satisfactorily built for shipping needs.
  • Performs tasks in other departments as assigned by supervisor.
  • Reports Labor accurately each day.
  • Cleans work area machines tools and equipment. Performs other routine duties.
  • Other duties as assigned
Requirements
  • High School diploma or GED
  • Knowledge and experience using power tools in accordance with safety guidelines
  • Ability to stay focused on tasks and meet timely deadlines
Language Skills: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions and short correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in oneonone or small group situations to employees of the organization.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to add subtracts multiply and divides in all units of measure using whole numbers common fractions and decimals.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger handle or feel objects tools or controls; and reach with hands and arms. Is frequently required to stoop kneel crouch or crawl. Occasionally required to sit and climb or balance.
The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds assisted using chains hoists lifts or forklift or other team members. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision color vision peripheral vision depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job the employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles.
