- Remuneration: Level 6 Professional $100 K $107 K) based on experience 17 Super and leave loading
- Location: Kensington NSW

Why Your Role Matters:
The Research Officer will play a key role in the multidisciplinary infectious disease research team supporting the development of a new AI tool for sentiment analysis and disinformation tracking. They will work with a team of epidemiologists and software engineers and with a larger team in the EPIWATCH system an AI opensource epidemic intelligence (OSINT) observatory.
The Research Officer will be responsible for collecting monitoring analyzing and reporting on social media data related to vaccines masks and medicine whilst collaborating with AI engineers on a grant funded project. They will assist in developing large language models to track community sentiment and disinformation around infectious diseases.
They will work closely with the Professor to manage and prioritize workflows ensuring that deadlines and grant deliverables are met.
The position is within the Biosecurity Program and has no direct reports.
Skills and Experience:
- A relevant degree in Public Health or equivalent degree in social sciences.
- Proven track record in social and behavioural research related to vaccines and infectious diseases.
- Strong understanding of social media data for understanding trends in communicable diseases and community sentiment and proven ability to analyse such data.
- Experience working with a range of computer systems and applications including Microsoft Office Adobe SharePoint and Statistical software for data analysis and code generation (such as Stata SPSS or SAS R Studio).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a high level of attention to detail for deliverables produced.
- Sound stakeholder management skills with the ability to liaise effectively with a range of stakeholders.
- Excellent time management skills with a demonstrated ability to respond to changing priorities manage multiple tasks and meet competing deadlines by using judgement and initiative.
- An understanding of and commitment to UNSWs aims objectives and values in action together with relevant policies and guidelines.
- Knowledge of health & safety (psychosocial and physical) responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
