Job Description

Tectonic is actively seeking experienced fulltime Resident Engineers for upcoming MTA Transit projects (NYC Transit Metro North Railroad Long Island Rail Road Staten Island Railway Bus etc. as well as for upcoming NJ Transit and Amtrak projects! This position offers a competitive salary and benefits package and opportunities to work on challenging and exciting projects.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Provides professional engineering and construction oversight services on multiple rail transit designbuild and/or construction projects acting as Clients representative in the field with directly managing contractors vendors utilities owner laborforces and other external parties on projects involving rail transit systems including rail infrastructure elements such as stations facilities shops yards signal systems communication systems power systems bridges and viaducts tunnels track systems drainage structural elements fare payment systems vertical transportation systems security systems and associated work;
  • Supervises coordinates and tracks all field site activities and provides technical advice on construction and design; recommends and executes corrective actions to resolve issues;
  • Responds to requests for information from contractors by interpreting plans and specifications by utilizing advanced knowledge of engineering and past experience; documents contractor performance;
  • Regularly reviews and approved engineering design plans shop drawings product data other constructionphase submittals / deliverables;
  • Reviews contractor payment applications and recommends approval or rejection to owner;
  • Reviews validity of contractorsubmitted change orders;
  • Leads onsite Field Engineers and Inspectors;
  • Schedules all field staff to ensure full shift coverage coordinates Special Inspection and Testing needs and reviews / approves daily inspection reports;
  • Implements and follows Company / owner / projectspecific safety and quality protocols and participates in safety and quality meetings & audits as necessitated by the project requirements;
  • Monitors the progress of the project in accordance with contract cost and schedule including project timelines and specifications and holds progress meetings as required;
  • Ensures all project documentation is completed and submitted as required and completes necessary project closeout processes;
  • Coordinates and executes contractor access and protection requests including track outages / GOs foul time property access requests flag protection and forceaccount labor;
  • assist or lead management of all project staff;
  • All related Resident Engineering and Project Management duties as required to ensure the successful completion of assigned projects.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Valid Professional Engineering License in the State of New York with a Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering or similar; equivalent years of multidisciplinary rail transit experience in a Resident Engineering or Management role will be considered in lieu of a PE license; PE licenses issued by other states within the US will also be considered;
  • A minimum of 8 years of progressive experience working on rail transit projects with rail transit systems such as New York City Transit (subways) Long Island Rail Road Metro North Railroad Amtrak New Jersey Transit (passenger and light rail systems) PATH PATCO Staten Island Railway or PANYNJ Air Train systems with a minimum of 2 years of leadership experience; experience working on freight railroads will also be considered for select rail systems projects;
  • Ability to understand and interpret written specifications plans and construction documents for work orders and build documents;
  • Ability to effectively and tactfully communicate with clients supervisors office staff and inspectors regarding project status and issues drawings specifications and qualification test results;
  • Detailoriented with capability to detect nonconformities and complete detailed reports within a timely manner;
  • Experience interpreting and supervising the of various rail and construction industry standards & requirements (national and ownerbased);
  • Must be willing to work nights and weekends as needed;
  • A valid clean drivers license and personal vehicle to travel to job sites is preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
While performing the essential functions of this position the employee is frequently required to assume a stationary position handle inspect and/or feel documents materials and/or equipment relevant to the job and communicate about same. The employee is also regularly required to move around on project sites and within buildings and other structures including ascending or descending the landscape or on a ladder and positioning themselves appropriately to access necessary testing materials and equipment frequently for prolonged periods of time. For rail transit projects the jobsite will often consist of hazards associated with an operating rail transit system including but not limited to: trains traveling at high rates of speed adjacent to the work area electrified third rail or catenary wire stone ballast walking surfaces track systems including running rail concrete or creosotesoaked timber ties and uneven ballast surfaces. The employee is constantly working in outdoor weather conditions including exposure to extreme heat extreme cold and precipitation.
The employee will also communicate with colleagues supervisors and clients utilizing Corporate and client email and telephone systems. Employees may also be required to undergo substance abuse testing in accordance with project requirements US DOT Regulations and/or Company policy. The employee may occasionally be required to operate a computer as well as other related office machinery such as calculators printers and copy machines. This position also may require the regular operation of a motorvehicle which may require remaining stationary for extended periods of time.

PAY RANGE
Tectonics goal is to compensate employees fairly and equitably across all positions Companywide. Our advertised pay ranges are representative of our good faith effort to provide a reasonable anticipated salary range. The offered pay may be outside of the provided salary range based upon the selected candidates work location experience education certifications and capabilities compared to the advertised position.
Pay Range: $120000 $180000 / year
