Job Description

Overview

The Academic Technologist for Social Sciences promotes and supports academic technologies for Anthropology Economics Educational Studies Geography International Studies Political Science and Sociology as part of a hightouch serviceoriented team to support faculty. The Academic Technologist consults on strategies for deploying appropriate informational technologies in digital and physical learning spaces in support of pedagogical outcomes. They work directly with faculty and staff in resolving problems. The Academic Technologist for Social Sciences partners with The Center for Disability Resources to provide assistive technology and support to students.

This is a fulltime position with typical onsite work hours of 8:00am4:30pm Monday through Friday during the academic year. Some flexibility during the summer.

About The Department:

Academic Technology Services (ATS) is a specialized team within Information Technology Services (ITS). Our mission is to engage with faculty and their students in the thoughtful integration of technology into learning teaching and research. Our academic technologists support student learning through Macalesters learning management system Moodle. We support scholarship and pedagogy with recommendations and guidance on appropriate technology and advise and assist with digital projects as part of the Digital Liberal Arts team. ATS provides ongoing strategic analysis for the best tools for teaching and research and consult with faculty on new technology purchases.

Responsibilities

  • Promotes and supports faculty in the effective use of the Colleges existing information technologies in their teaching (software and classroom technologies). Provides instruction and training for faculty and their students in the classroom and for researchrelated projects.
  • Engages actively and collaboratively with individual faculty members and departments to identify create and expand academic uses of information services and technologies for teaching learning and research. Works collaboratively with faculty to creatively incorporate information technologies into the curriculum.
  • Is a point of contact for The Center for Disability Resources and students served by that office. Recommends tests and supports assistive technologies. Works individually with students to make sure they have the technology they need. Researches and implements UDL practices and assistive technologies in collaboration with The Center for Disability Resources.
  • Serves as a liaison between ITS and the academic departments. Works collaboratively with the ITS Help Desk to gather and relay information about desktop network and computer lab problems. Performs issue triage as necessary to assist the Help Desk in responding to and resolving problems.
  • Collaborates with Information Services departments Academic Information Associate peers and other staff in support of information technologies and services. Gathers and shares information about information technology support issues with these departments. Contributes to the goal of strong client service in a cooperative working environment.
  • Contributes to planning academic technology development at the college including evaluating new applications services and participating in information technology policy development for the College.

Qualifications

  • 3 5 years of experience with educational technologies.
  • Experience working with faculty in a higher education setting.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills.
  • Commitment to enriching teaching and learning.
  • Demonstrated interest in fostering academic uses of information resources and familiarity with academic content areas and methodologies in the disciplines served.

Preferred:

  • Masters Degree
  • Basic skills in relevant statistical analysis and qualitative data analysis software.
  • Some experience in the field of teaching is strongly desired.

Compensation:

The annual salary for this position will be $66000 $69000 depending on experience.
