The Position
The Stationary Engineers primary role focuses on operating maintaining troubleshooting and repairing facility equipment on all building systems. The stationary engineer must be familiar with and demonstrate technical expertise with building mechanical systems such as lowpressure boiler Systems Chillers Plumbing Fire Safety Systems Electrical Carpentry and other building components. This is a union position with the International Union Of Operating Engineers (IUOE) of Chicago Illinois and vicinity local number 399.
The Adler Planetarium is seeking a fulltime stationary Engineer to join our dynamic team located on Chicagos Museum Campus. This individual will be responsible for:
Provide proper upkeep of all mechanical equipment including inspecting troubleshooting and making necessary repairs where needed.
Preventative maintenance on all building systems.
Maintain proper building temperatures throughout the facility each season.
Work with all exterior mechanical vendors to ensure adequate maintenance.
Ability to keep an organized work order schedule and meet desired deadlines.
Ability to multitask for operational needs and special requests.
The Work Schedule
The typical work schedule for this position is 40 hours per week from 10 AM to 7 PM Wednesday through Sunday. The days off are Monday and Tuesday and there are flextime options.
The Compensation & Benefits (FullTime)
The pay rate for this position is $38.50/hr as determined by the collective bargaining agreement.

The Person
Required Qualifications:
Minimum: High School Diploma or equivalent.
Current City of Chicago Stationary Building Engineer License
12 years of experience working in a stationary engineer position.
Must react well under pressure multitask and efficiently troubleshoot issues. Familiar with building automation systems life systems and evacuation procedures. Respond to all emergency situations with a calm and systematic approach. Good time management team player and a good listener. Able to follow through with proven results.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelors Degree or 5 years of experience working as a Stationary Engineer within the City of Chicago.
CFC Certification
Minimum of 1 year of experience working in a museum facility.
