You must be a RN or Certified Diabetes Educator to apply!We are carrying out a multiyear project at MGH to research a behavior change intervention for Spanishspeaking patients with diabetes and depressive symptoms. We are looking for someone who could commit approximately 2 hrs./week to serve as a coleader for these groups as well as participate in other aspects of intervention development.The intervention involves a group treatment with elements of diabetes education support motivational interviewing and problemsolving treatment. The groups will most likely be held at MGH Chelsea. They would take place weekly at a time to be coordinated with the group coleaders.The job offers exposure to a Latino patient population as well as to MGH Chelsea and possibly also the MGH Diabetes Center and MGH Psychiatry (Depression Clinical and Research Program).PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:This position involves coleading a weekly group with a mental health specialist. Part of this role will be to provide diabetes education as needed to participants. This role also involves cofacilitating discussion using motivational and problemsolving techniquesThe coleader will receive training in motivational interviewing and problemsolving treatment as modalities for helping patients make behavior change. Those who are interested may also have the opportunity to participate in other aspects of the research project such as intervention development.SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:The candidate should be fluent in Spanish. Ideally he/she would also have experience working with diabetes in adults and an interest in motivational interviewing or other behavior change interventions. Research experience is not necessary. LICENSES CERTIFICATIONS and/or REGISTRATIONS Minimum credential: RN or Certified Diabetes Educator preferred.EDUCATION:BSN ADN or diploma from an approved nursing program OR certification as a diabetes educator strongly preferred.EXPERIENCE:23 years of experience preferredSUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITYN/AFISCAL RESPONSIBILITYN/AWORKING CONDITIONS:Standard outpatient clinic office conditions
