The Opportunity

WSDOT is currently seeking an Assistant Office Engineer to join our team to provide construction contract administration support to the Gateway Program SR509 Completion project team.This position is critical in fostering a respectful and healthy work environment with focus on diversity equity and inclusion. As an assistant office engineer this position supports WSDOTs mission by ensuring that design and construction documentation requirements are met. This position will provide Construction Contract Administration Support for the SR 509 Stage 1b and Stage 2 projects responsible for assisting in the oversight of Design Build and Design Bid Build project activities. This position is responsible for documenting preparing and reporting information related to contract administration. This position meets the organizations mission by ensuring design and construction documentation requirements are met.


What to Expect

Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role theAssistant Office Engineerwill:

  • Assists Office Manager in project documentation for the SR 509 Program.
  • Forward route and transmit project documentation to and from the Contractor.
  • Coordinate review of design and construction submittals with subject matter experts (SME) by setting up tracking and closing review sessions in Bluebeam and in the document control system.
  • Return any comments to Contractor for correction.
  • Perform Quality Control (QC) audits of documentation this includes reviewing records to ensure that documentation is being processed and stored correctly.
  • Maintain contract management software for tracking of issues change order requests submittals and status.
  • Review and prepare contractor payments.
  • Process requests to sublets from the Design Builder and verify they are in compliance with the contract provisions.


Qualifications

To be considered for this opportunity the following are required:

  • Certification as an EngineerInTraining (EIT) and one 1 year experience as a Transportation Engineer 1 Transportation Technician 3 Bridge Engineer 1 or equivalent

OR

  • Two 2 years of experience as a Transportation Engineer 1 Transportation Technician 3 Bridge Engineer 1 or equivalent:

OR

  • A masters degree with major study in civil engineering structural engineering geotechnical engineering soil mechanics traffic transportation or a closely related field.


In addition the following are required:

  • Strong communication skills both written and verbal for communicating with internal and external customers.
  • Ability to read and understand construction plans and provisions and relevant mandatory standards.
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite products including Word Excel and Outlook
  • Valid Drivers License


It is preferred that qualified candidates also have:

  • Certification as an EngineerInTraining (EIT)
  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (BSCE)
