Job Description

Introduction

The Maryland State Retirement Agency is the administrator of the Maryland State Retirement and Pension System. The System is a multiemployer public employees benefit retirement system composed of twelve 12 separate retirement and pension systems with additional plan components covering approximately 193000 active members and more than 170000 retires and beneficiaries.

The Agency is recruiting to fill Retirement Benefits Specialist Lead for its Member Services Unit.

This position is limited to current employees of the Maryland State Retirement and Pensions Systems Agency.

POSITION DUTIES

Themain purpose of the Retirement Benefits Specialist Lead is to be the humaninterface between the Retirement Agency and its members retireesbeneficiaries and participating employers.

Position duties include but are not limited to:

  • Independently and correctly advise the Agencys customers and answer questions regarding pension benefits.
  • Represent the Agency at offsite presentations seminars conventions ad hoc meetings and webinars.
  • Independently handle assignment to the Front Desk.
  • Independently complete special assignments assigned by supervisors.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Experience:Seven years of experience counseling employees or responding to inquiries in a call center relative to pension benefits and options available under a State federal or local retirement and pension system.

Notes:
1. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university and three years of experience counseling employees or responding to inquiries in a call center relative to pension benefits and options available under a State federal or local retirement and pension system for the required experience.

2.Candidates may substitute the possession of a Maryland Retirement Coordinator certification issued by the Maryland State Retirement Agency 120 E. Baltimore Street BaltimoreMD 21202 for one year of the required experience.

3. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Masters degree in Business Management Business Administration or Public Administration from an accredited college or university for five years of the required experience.

4. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces militaryservice experience as a commissioned officer in Financial Management classifications or Financial Managementspecialty codes in the Accounting and Budget field of work on a yearforyear basis for the required experience.

LIMITATIONS ON SELECTION

This position is limited to current employees of the Maryland State Retirement and Pensions Systems Agency.

LICENSES REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties shall be required to possess a valid motor vehicle operators license valid in the State of Maryland.

2. Employees in this classification must possess and maintain a Notary Public commission valid in the State of Maryland.
